Wilmington Head Start, Inc. is committed to recognizing
that male family members and father figures contribute significantly to the school readiness goals of children and to the well-being of families. WHS constantly involve fathers as backers, lifelong supporters, and first educators of their children. Our program also supports participating dads in increasing their skills, and to achieve their personal interests and goals. Male family members and father figures have important and unique contributions to make to their Head Start communities. Everyone benefits when their wish to make a positive difference is welcomed. Male Involvement refers to bringing fathers/male figures into the program to join in diverse activities with their children. Male Involvement assists fathers/male figures to become more involved in every aspect of their childs life. Male involvement is comprised of child rearing and involvement but goes a step further. Engaging fathers/father figures is committing to a partnership. Positive Male involvement is imbedded in positive connections, and involvement means being present. The engagement process emphasizes generating and nourishing ongoing positive relationships. The goal is to assist families and to promote childrens education and development. At Wilmington Head Start, Inc., engaging fathers/father figures means that males role models and staff produce a partnership to promote to share information about the child, to participate in program governance, and more importantly, work together to create child and family goals that inspire and stimulate success. Our staff is required to demonstrate a true interest and regard for the distinctive gifts, beliefs, goals, circumstances and ambitions of the fathers/father figured that we serve. Our program, strives to build trust and accepts everyone. A trusting relationship can lead to positive changes for families and for your program.

Offer a welcoming setting for fathers and invite them
to join as equal partners in the education of their children
Involve fathers in the schools volunteer program so
they can share in supporting school-wide classroom, and parent involvement activities Give fathers opportunities to obtain necessary information, knowledge, and skills to support their childrens education at home and at school.
Respond to parental concerns and/or complaints to
guarantee childs educational needs are met.
Comply with all Head Start, State, and Federal
requirements regarding parent involvement.
Provide resources for fathers to improve their
parenting skills such as access to parenting classes, health and nutrition classes and parents as partners.
