Types Injection
Intramuscular (Im), Intradermal (Id), Subcutan (Sc), And Intravenous (Iv)

Definition and Injection Site, The Function From Injection, The Medicine
Use For Injection, And Intravenous Injection Procedure.

A. Definition And Injection Site

1. Intramuscular Injections (IM)
a. Definition : giving of medicine / fluids by means incorporated
directly into the muscle (muscle) with use syringe. The liquid used is
usually in small amounts, between 0.5 to 10 cc.
b. Site :
1) In the area of the thigh (vastus lateralis) by way instruct the
patient to lie on your back with knees slightly flexed.
2) In ventrogluteal by way instruct the patient to tilt, stomach or
back with your knees or pelvis tilted injected with a flexion. This
area is the most widely chosen for muscular injection because in
this area there are no large blood vessels and nerves.
3) In regions dorsogluteal manner to instruct the patient on his
stomach with his knees rotated inward or angled with the top of
the knee and hip flexion and placed in front of the lower leg.
4) At the deltoid region (upper arm) by way instruct the patient to
sit or lie flat upper arm flexion.
5) Rectus femoris: In adults, rectus femoris lies in third the front of
the thigh.
2. Intradermal Injection (ID)
a. Definition : how to put some fluid layer between the skin with a
syringe. The fluid that is injected usually in very small amounts of
0.1-0.5 cc. Injecting this way is usually to the skin test against
allergies.
b. Site : injected in the skin that blood flow is not much so that the drug
can be absorbed slowly.
3. Subcutan Injections (SC)
a. Definition : how to put a number of fluid under the skin with a syringe
and injected the fluid usually in small amounts / bit.
b. Site : at the front of the thigh and lower abdomen at the umbilicus
(navel).
4. Intravenous Injections (IV)
a. Definition : how to put a number of fluid into the circulatory system
via the veins / arteries with syringe
b. Site : injections are carried out in the wrist up, arms and legs.
B. The Function From Injection
1. Intramuscular Injections (IM) Function
a. To enter a number of drugs in the muscle tissue for absorption
b. To achieve faster absorption
2. Intradermal Injection (ID) Function
a. To spare the patient from the effects of drug allergy (the skin test)
3. Subcutan Injections (SC) Function
a. To enter a drug into the subcutaneous tissue under the skin to be
absorbed
4. Intravenous Injections (IV) function
a. For obtain drug reactions rapid absorption than with any other
parenteral injection
b. To avoid tissue damage
c. To insert the drugs in larger quantities
C. The Medicine For Injection
1. Intramuscular Injections (IM)
Medicine are often injected way im: metoclopramide, codeine,
injections KB, types vaccine. Example :
a. Matolac
b. Fentanyl

b. 0.1 ATS or ADS + 0.9 NaCl to neutralize the endotoxin from tetanus
or diphtheria germs
c. Adrenalin 1%
d. 0.1 ml of human diploid cell vaccine (pasteur mariex) for rabies
vaccine
e. Allergen extracts
3. Subcutan Injections (SC)
a. Insulin
b. Heparin
4. Intravenous Injections (IV)
a. Aminofusin L 600
b. Ranitidin
c. Petidin hidroklorida
d. Eritromisin
e. Protamin sulfat
f. Fitomenadion
D. Intravenous Injection Procedure
Intravenous Injection Work procedures :
1. Washing hands
2. Explain the procedure to be performed
3. Free the injected area by freeing the area to be carried out the injection of
clothes and when open or closed to ataskan
4. Take the drug in its place with a syringe according to the dose to be given.
If the drugs are in a powder dosage form, then dissolved in a solvent
(sterile distilled water).
5. Put perlak or pengalas under venous injection to be performed
6. Then place the drug had been taken on the vessel injection
7. Disinfection with an alcohol swab
8. Make binding with rubber hedge (torniquet) at the top of the area that will
be the administration of drugs or tighten by hand / ask for help or stem
above the vein to be performed injection.
9. Take a syringe containing the drug
10. Do penusukkan with holes facing up to enter into the blood vessels by
injecting angle 150-300
11. Aspirate when there is blood and remove the rubber hedge directly spray
the drug until exhausted.
12. After the download is completed syringe by pulling and applying pressure
on penusukkan area with an alcohol swab, and syringes that have been
used put into crooked.
13. Wash hands and record the administration of drugs / drug test, date, time
and type of medication as well as the reaction after the injection (if any)
