attention to the form of adjectives.
-Adjectives agree in gender and number with the nouns and pronouns they modify. Regular
adjectives have the following pattern.
Masculine Feminine
Singular -- -e patient, patiente
Plural -s -es patients, patientes
-In written French, the feminine form of a regular adjective is formed by adding e to the
masculine. If the masculine form already ends in e, the masculine and feminine forms are
identical. Although there are masculine forms that end in e and add another e to form the
feminine.
-In written French, the plural form of a regular adjective is formed by adding s to the singular
form. If the masculine singular form ends in s or x, the masculine singular and plural forms
are identical.
-In spoken French, if a regular adjective ends in a silent consonant in the masculine, the
consonant is pronounced in the feminine.
-In spoken French, regular adjectives masculine forms that do not end in silent consonant
sound the same in the masculine and feminine.
