Tensile Test of Aluminum 2024-T351 and Steel 1018 Cold Rolled
Tensile Test of Aluminum 2024-T351 and Steel 1018 Cold Rolled
Objective: To perform a standard tensile test for aluminum 2024-T351 and Steel 1018 cold rolled (as
discussed on pages 50-56 of the text). For Aluminum, report the 1) Tensile Strength, 2) Modulus of Elasticity,
3) Yield Strength, and 4) % Elongation. For steel report the 1) Tensile Strength and 2) % Elongation. Compare
the results to: MET history, and Published (from the web).
Note: The parts furnished are ASTM standard tensile specimens machined from round bar.
Procedure for steel and aluminum
1. Measure and record the diameter of the specimen 5 times.
2. Punch (lightly) the specimen with a 2" gauge length.
3. Record the readability and range for the caliper and extensometer.
