This is one of thise effects that looks so simple in print that you're dare not try it. However, this
is a wonderful trick, and I have used it, along with the Hoy Book Test, ever since I read them.
Plus, it's near enough impromptu! Harry Lorayne says he's prepared for it during the show, if
he's got a paper to hand!

I recommend Dan Harlans version from his Mentalism DVD. He shows you how to construct a
fool proof method that works. When you see the gimmicked clip line it'll make you drool. You
have to build it yourself but it works.

Al Manns methods are great but his AME are hard to come buy. I love Al Mann and some of his
effects are genius some are just ideas.
The cheapest book I can think of that will explain the effect is Karl Fulves (sp) mentalism book.
Sells for about 7 bucks. I am looking for the book but I cant nd it. Someone might know the
name. I know it' about atomatic or semi-auto mentalism.
Richard Osterlind sells his version I think. Never seen it or have I used it.

The original verison of what is commonly called "Clip Line" was by Al Spackman (in Gen, 1964),
and exists in the literature in many versions, such as that (#33 "The Want Ad Test") in Karl
Fulves' inexpensive Self-Working Mental Magic. As such, it has been widely exposed, and
although the original version is still a good one, you run the risk of more astute audience
members being aware of it.

extensively discussed in Al Mann's Super Clip Line Plus. Richard Osterlind's Dynamic Mysteries
has a whole chapter on his version. Roy Miller has an excellent gaffed version on the market
(this is the one used by Chuck Hickok in his Mentalism, Incorporated), and Gary Lee Williams has
published (in Stephen Minch's Spectacle) one that will fool all the magicians who think they
know it.

MagicPres,
You would do yourself a major favor by looking up Richard Osterlinds effect along this line in
his book "Dynamic Mysteries" (I think???)
We've used it many times and it has some kickers in it that fool even the wise one's.

Roy's Miller Clipper is, I believe, available only from him directly. You can reach him at

Highly recommended.

Does anyone know if the methodology used by Jay Sankey in his excellent "Cut Here" effect is
original with him? The reason I'm asking is because I am in the process of developing an
expanded effect that uses that precise method and I'd like to both give credit to and seek
permission of the originator of that methodology. I, of course, plan on writing to Jay in this
regard. But, if the methodology goes further back, I'd like to be thorough in my research, my
Inner circle crediting and my seeking of permission(s).

Thanks for any information in that regard.
Mike
P.S. No inference of plagarism or lack of originality on the part of Jay Sankey was intended (and
hopefully not implied) by the above questions and comments. I'm just anal retentive when it
comes to crediting and seeking permissions. And I know that lots of times a person can
unknowingly "invent" something that, unbeknownst to him, had been previously created by
another.
I know that Al Spackman's "Clip Line" has seen many many variations and I'm just trying to get
to the earliest source of the methodology used by Jay. Knowing Jay's creative and wackey
mind, it is highly probable that the "Cut Here" methodolgy rst saw the light of day courtesy of
Jay. But, I'm just trying to cover my "academic research" bases.

The exact effect the thread's author originally mentioned can be found in Karl Fulves' Self
Working Mental Magic. It is trick 33 entitled The Want Ad Test and appears on page 53.
I should mention both the wonderful Jeff Sheridan and Richard Osterlind have a version that
deals with the written text of a newspaper clipping with the same method and presentation on
Loyal user their dvds.

With the permission of Roy Miller (and the help of Doug Dyment), I have modied Roy's method
so that you can change or customize the "force line" or "force word".
I call my effect SNIPPER. I supply the newsprint and a WORD document with a newspaper
article already printed in the way necessary to make the routine work every time with no moves.
Loyal user Everything looks so fair. All your effort can be on presentation.

The headline can be changed ... and the force line can be changed. Just modify the article to t
your needs and run it thru your printer. This allows me to have the force line tie into the theme
of the evenet or the host name. I have used it in every corporate show for the past 10 years.

Chuck,
How much newprint paper is supplied and how many newspaper articles (of reasonable length)
can you print with the supplied newsprint)? Also, is there a ready supply for additional newprint
paper either from you or from "regular" outside sources (i.e., like printers or your local
newspaper, etc.)?

Chuck,
Mike
Mike, I've used Chuck's Clipper in about 10 different venues. Each time I customized the paper
for the event. I found the "paper" at a craft store and now I make my own. You can nd
newsprint artists use at any craft store in a big pad.

I use the version Jay Sankey shows on his "22 Blows to the Head" DVD. I always go to the
newspaper stands that give out free paper.

The Clip Line Deluxe Set-up combined with the Clipper idea is very strong, IMHO.
