DISCUSSION
In many ways, the 1,200-hectare township of Mela was not dirty. It did not have garbage disposed of
everywhere, and the low number of mosquitoes and flies made it safer to live. Around 6,000 sweepers
worked round the clock to clean the area.
Around 200 tonnes of solid waste was removed from Kumbh every day.
The authorities arranged for 80 million liters of drinking water, 40,000 portable toilets, 243 doctors and
treated more than 100,000 people for various infections at the14 hospitals in the Mela area.
