ensure the safer delivery of the product throughout its
journey from manufacturing to the end use

Functions of Packaging:

This is widely known as3Pconcept. The latest inclusion of the

4th P is Promotion of the product
Use of the optimum Packaging which shall take care of
the Pharmaceutical Preparations right through its shelf
life and beyond . That too without any over packaging.
Selection of Packaging for Pharmaceuticals is extremely
crucial as it is directly related to life and death of a
living element.
Pharmaceutical Packaging requires special features like
senior friendly and child resistant features
Pharmaceutical packaging has become very critical as
it requires to meet the law of the land especially when
it is exported to regulated markets.
Product protection up to shelf life
Legal compliance
Pharmacopoeia standards
Patient Protection
Customer convenience
Route of administration
Primary Packaging:
Direct contact with product, also known as critical packaging component. Tendency to
have influence on the finished product quality. Eg: Containers, closures, blisters, strip
,s space fillers, desiccant etc.

Critical Secondary Packaging

To protect primary packaging Eg: Pouches, Thermoform trays for prefilled syringes
etc..
Secondary Packaging
This encloses one or more primary packs, also known as noncritical Packaging
component Eg: Cartons, eflute boxes, efluted trays, etc.
Additional Packaging
To hold primary packs Eg: trays, display cartons
Fillers: Main purpose is to protect the product from transit
hazards.

Types of Fillers:
Cotton: Natural Material
Having Moisture content of 4 to 8%
Rayon
Semisynthetic Material
Having Moisture content up to 11%

Polyester Fiber Synthetic Fibers Having low moisture of

maximum 1%.
Desiccants: Main purpose is to protect the
product from moisture / gases.
Types of Desiccants:
Silica Gel
Silica Gel with Activated Carbon (2 in 1)
Molecular sieve
Oxygen Scavengers / Absorbers : Purpose is to
protect the product from gases esp y ecially
oxyg , en nitrogen etc.
LDPE bags are the most demanding laminated material
used for the packaging products in the pharmaceutical
industry. The delivery of the medicines and drugs to the
customers is the challenging task for the healthcare
products manufacturers. To sustain the efficiency, quality
and performance of the products, Pharma grade LDPE bags
are the best solution to eliminate the risk of leakage,
moisture effects as well as to the safe delivery of the
products. These bags are made with low density
polyethylene grades which are helpful in controlling the
conditions that offer high quality, consistent and pure
products to the consumers. They are moisture free, DMF
free, odorless and not toxic bags.
Remove moisture, humidity and toxins
Excellent mechanical properties
Improved shelf life
Temperature resistance
Tensile, seal and burst strength
Available in variety of sizes
LDPE bags are the most suitable and cost-effective solution to
protect the products from the outside conditions. Such type of
highly effective bags is commonly used in food and pharmaceutical
industries where the products need to be protected from moisture,
humidity, mold and mildew. These bags are best for storing and
transporting the API in the powdered, beads or any other form
without any harmful effects of external environmental conditions. It
is very important to maintain the effectiveness and quality of API
(Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) to produce high quality tablets,
capsules and other drugs which they are part of.

Pharma grade bags are used for API packaging that ensure to keep
these ingredients safe from any spoilage or damage when stored
for long time or when transported from one location to another.
Improve process efficiency
Eliminate potential powder exposure
Enhance shelf life
Contain antistatic properties
No chance of content reaction
Improve tear resistance
