Grade 8 Science Syllabus
Course Description:
During the year, the eighth graders are taking Physical and Life Science broken up into four
(4) distinct units: 1- Animal Behavior; 2- Good Friends and Germs; 3- Living Together; and
4- Genetics. Each unit will be examined through a project based approach that will
incorporate experiential learning (laboratory) and in class discussion. Students will explore
the world of science to improve their problem-solving skills and develop better Science
Literacy.

Notebook
Laptop
Folder for loose paper
Pencil case with necessary supplies
At least two pencils and pens
Lab Safety:
Mr. Tilly will review with students the safety policy in the science classroom. A Science
Safety Contract must be signed by students. Mr. Tilly reserves the right to exclude from
laboratory work any student who does not abide by the safety policy of the school.

Make-up Procedures:
*Absent work is due within one week from the day he or she is absent.
Late Work:
If the assignment is not turned in at the time collected, it will be considered late. Late work
will be accepted for partial credit, except in the case of an excused absence.

2. All directions must be followed; this is especially important in lab situations.
3. Keep hands, feet, & objects to yourself.
4. Be in assigned seats ready to learn when the class starts; this includes having all
necessary supplies
5. One person talking at a time, be respectful. Everyones input is welcome.
6. Keep it in English.
7. There are NO FOOD OR DRINKS ALLOWED IN CLASS, except
water. During labs, no water is permitted.
8. Computers should only be used when permitted.
9. Please wait until I excuse you before you leave the classroom.
