INRODUCTION
This narrative report is all about our Basic training at Far East
Maritime Foundation.
The FEMFI is providing the necessary training to keep our seafarers at
par with the worlds best and the ever-changing requirements in the
global shipping community for more reliable and qualified crew to man
their vessels. The impact of having this kind of activity to our course as a
HRS is for our safety and the safety of other people.
SOLAS stands for Safety of Life at Sea. This basic safety training
(BST) is required before you can land a job as a seafarer. Without this
training you are not allowed to sign a contact for a job in a vessel. It is
also is an international maritime treaty which requires Signatory Flag
states to ensure that ships lagged by them comply with minimum safety
standards in construction.
II. A. BODY
Is a one day course split into both theory and practicals including
launching
and entering a life raft. Included are actions to be taken by persons for
self protection in emergency situations, survival at sea and deployment of
safety equipment. It forms part of the mandatory basic training for all
seafaring personnel. So its also part of our offshore training courses.
Its all about how to survive at the middle of the sea that what
happened when the cruise is sinking. It is very helpful when the person
inside the cruise is know how to do the survival techniques and to used
the life raft in case of emergency.
This is the last lesson that we discussed in the training that was
discussed by Mr. Zapata. It was very interesting on that topic because it
was so incredible to know the different parts of the vessels and to
determined what kind of vessels that we must go when shipping on
board.
B. THE FEELING
Now imagine that we can't see anything. The fire has shorted out
electricity to the building (or the fire department has shut if off for their
own safety), so all of the lights have gone out, and the room is rapidly
filling with thick gray smoke, so much smoke that not even sunlight can
get in.
At first we think to yourself, "I can get out of here. I've been in here
before, and I know my way out." But that was when were walking upright
and could see. Now imagine doing it on your hands and knees because
the smoke is toxic and superheated, so we can't stand up in it. So
imagine yourself blinded and crawling on your hands and knees trying to
FEEL your way out.
Imagine how hard that would be, especially if we had the added
stress of actually being in a burning building. We had never been in that
building beforethat's what it feels like to be a firefighter. The only
difference is that the firefighter is rushing in while we're rushing out.
