Presidents Of Cuba Since 1909

Since gaining independence from Spain and a U.S. occupation, Cuba has
seen a number of major changes in government.
The flag of the Republic of Cuba.

Cuba, officially known as the Republic of Cuba, is located on the northern side of the
Caribbean Sea which coincides with the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. It
comprises of the island of Cuba, Isla de la Juventud, and other minor collections of
islands. It covers an area of 42,426 square miles with a population of approximately 11
million thus making it the largest and second most populous island in the Caribbean.
The office of the president was established in 1976. The president is officially known as
the president of the council of state and is appointed by the legislative National
Assembly of Peoples Power (NAPP). The president is both the head of the council of the
state of Cuba as well as the head of the government. The president serves for a term of
five years and it is only renewable once.
