Brief About Area:

Tharparkar district spread over 22,000 sq.kms and now has been famous due to larger
coal reserves in the Asia with diversified It includes sand hills, creeks, and other bumps
and lumps on a particular hunk of earth and rich in other mineral resources remained
faces emergency situation. Two major emergencies the population of Tharparkar faces
are drought and fire incidence. These months when stormy winds blow with high speed
always make fire incident more severe and uncontrolled and the effects of such fire
incidents itself a particular number of times by scarcity of water, poor road
infrastructure, non-availability of firefighting instruments/facilities as well as capacities of
local people.

Fire incidents of village Noorani taluka Dahli Tharparkar:

The village Noorani is situated in Deh Charryar Union Council Dahli of Taluka Dahli
District Tharparkar having more than 96 households with approximately 671 men,
women and children. The village is located at the distance of about 07 kilometers from
Dahli and 36 kilometers from Chachro. The village is connected with the taluka and
district headquarters through pacca road. On October 10th 2017 at about 03.00 pm all of
sudden fire incident occurred by short-circuit in one of the resident house and due to
gusty winds the fire spread in whole village within few minutes and the inhabitants hardly
found way to save their lives leaving everything behind in the houses. The situation
depicts very critical condition of the village as everything changed in ash making
economic loss of millions of rupees according to initial reports. This is the fifth one
biggest incident of fire in district Tharparkar in 2017 as reported by the inhabitants.

RDA TEAM VISIT AND RAPID ASSESSMENT:

As the incident reported in electronic, print and social media and came in the knowledge
of the organization, Rural Development Association - RDA Tharparkar emergency
response team visited the village within two hours for rapid need assessment and
analyzing the immediate needs of the vulnerable people affected by this severe and
dangerous incident of fire. Today team visited the village and collected information of the
incident, data relating to damages of food, NFI and shelters and immediate needs of the
community so that response can be made to minimize the effects and address the
immediate needs of the people, especially of women and children.

The assessment shows the current situation, losses / damages due to fire incident,
immediate needs of the people and information related to response made by different
organizations (government and non-government).

Household Situation:

Total 12 katcha houses (Landhi and Chonra) made constructed of mud walls and roof of thatch /
local material have been burnt and damaged completely and one Madrasa also damaged.

Loss of food / stored grain and fodder:

All the food grains stored by the villagers in their houses have been burnt completely and there
is left no food item in the village and people even don’t have capacity of one meal even. Besides
this, all the stored fodder to cater the needs of the animals has also been burnt completely and
there is no fodder available in village now.

Loss of livestock / animals:

The loss of livestock / animals is also reported by villagers as that were the main sources of
livelihood. According to villagers more than 02 big and small livestock perished including 02
Goats has been burnt and became ash.

RESPONSE / INTERVENTIONS MADE BY GOVT and RDA:

District administration provided 33 tents only. The efforts of district administration as well as
RDA team initially distributed 12 Non- food items NFIs Kits with the support from Karwan and
local philanthropists.

DMAID and Karwan intervention:

With the financial support from Danish Muslim Aid (DM AID) Karwan and RDA team distributed
monthly food package and small water storage tank with 12 fire affected families @ fire affected
village Noorani Taluka Dahli District Tharparkar. Monthly food package items details are given
