Importance of Tawheed
Ibn Abi Al Izz Al Damishqi (D 792 A.H.) in Shariah Aqeedah At-
Tahawiyyah starts with this sentence about Importance of Tawheed.
(Page No 1)
One must know that tawheed is the first matter that the
prophets (Peace be upon them) preached. It is the first step on
the path and the first stage of the journey to Allah SWT.
Allah SWT stated,
"We sent Noah to his people and he said, 'My people, serve
Allah; you have no other god than He" [7:59].
With tawheed one enters into Islam, and with it one will
depart from this world.
i.e. nothing that we possess in this life can pass on to and into the next life, except that of your
Tawheed and good deeds. (your soul goes forth with the essence of the person you were in this
worldly life, [what you believed and how you acted];
BUT the things we believe that make us who we are here [mere deception - i.e. in the West we are
taught by this secular society, and especially at this age, to think that our traditions, looks, tastes and
opinions (only non-islamic ones) make us who we are. This is a deception because, as Muslims, it is
our Deen that defines us. So please dear sisters don't be tricked when people ask who or what you
are into answering by any other definition, i.e national, cultural, by fashion, trends and tastes]
[if someone wants to know WHERE your from that is a different question and ok to answer as
above.]
looks, intellect, tastes won't matter a jot)
The Prophet said, "He whose last words are 'There is no god
except Allah,' (La illaha illallah) will enter Paradise”.
It is, therefore, the first duty and the last duty. Tawheed is
then the beginning of the matter (i.e. belief), and its end.
So every Muslim person should know about and have a firm
and correct belief in Tawheed.
Categorization of Tawheed
Verily your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the
earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of
authority), regulating and governing all things. No
intercessor (can plead with Him) except after His leave
(hath been obtained). This is Allah your Lord; Him
therefore serve ye: will ye not receive admonition? (10:3)
He has created the heavens and the earth for just ends: Far
is He above having the partners (in worship) they ascribe to
Him! (16:3)
He is the Living (One): There is no god but He: Call upon
Him, giving Him sincere devotion. Praise be to Allah, Lord
of the Worlds! (40:65)
It is Allah Who has made the Night for you, that ye may
rest therein, and the days as that which helps (you) to see.
Verily Allah is full of Grace and Bounty to men: yet most
men give no thanks. (40:61)
It is Allah Who hath created the heavens and the earth and
sendeth down rain from the skies, and with it bringeth out
fruits wherewith to feed you; it is He Who hath made the
ships subject to you, that they may sail through the sea by
His command; and the rivers (also) hath He made subject to
you. And He hath made subject to you the sun and the
moon, both diligently pursuing their courses; and the night
and the day hath he (also) made subject to you. (14:32-33)
(He is) the Creator of the heavens and the earth: He has
made for you pairs from among yourselves, and pairs
among cattle: by this means does He multiply you: there is
nothing whatever like unto Him, and He is the One that
hears and sees. (42:11)
Allah says
"He is Allah; there is no god but He, the Knower of
the Unseen and the Visible. He is the Most Gracious,
Most Merciful. He is Allah; there is no God but He,
The King, The Holy One, The Source of Peace, The
Keeper of Faith, The Guardian, The Almighty, The
Subduer, The Sublime. Glory be to Allah above what
they associate with Him. He is Allah, the Creator,
The Maker, The Shaper. His are the most beautiful
Names. All that is in the heavens and the Earth
glorifies Him. He is the Almighty, the Wise". (59:22-
4).
