The need and significance of social entrepreneurs is filled with variety of reasons. A business
entrepreneur can create new industry but a social entrepreneur comes up with solutions to social
difficulties and then implements them on a large-scale for the advantage of the people. An
example of such social impact made by a social entrepreneur Bunker Roy was that he created
the Barefoot College in rural communities in India to train uneducated and semiliterate men
and women, whose lack of educational qualifications keeps them stuck in poverty. Today
Barefoot College alumni include teachers, health workers, and architects who are enlightening
societies across India, including 450 “barefoot” engineers who have set up and retained solar
electrification systems in 547 villages that reach nearly 100,000 people. Another social
entrepreneur of recent times is Muhammad Yunus who transformed economics by establishing
the Grameen bank or “village bank” in 1976 to offer “micro loans to help needy people to
achieve economic independence through self- employment. By now, Yunus’s micro finance
model has been replicated in 58 countries around the world.
1. Economic Growth
The main economic importance that social entrepreneurship generates is job and employment
creation. Approximations ranges from one to seven percent of people working in the social
entrepreneurship sector. Social enterprises also deliver employment chances and job training
to sectors of society at an employment disadvantage (long-term jobless, disabled, homeless, at-
risk youth and gender-discriminated women). In the case of Grameen the economic condition
of six million deprived women micro-entrepreneurs were enriched.

2. Invention
Social enterprises grow invention importance to communal and financial expansion and
develop new goods and services. Problems addressed contain of the prevalent social evils such
as HIV, mental illness, illiteracy, crime and drug manipulation which are defied in new ways.
An instance displaying that these new tactics in some cases are movable to the public sector is
the Brazilian public entrepreneur Veronica Khosa, who established a home care for AIDS
patients which later transformed government health plan.
3. Communal Wealth
After financial wealth one of the most significant values formed by social entrepreneurship is
communal wealth. Examples are the achievement of the German and Japanese economies,
which have their back ground in lasting connections. The World Bank too realizes communal
wealth as acute for poverty mitigation and viable human and economic growth.
4. Advancement
Social entrepreneurship raises a more unbiased culture by speaking social concerns and trying
to attain continuing justifiable effect through social work rather than only profit-maximization.
In Yunus’s instance, the Grameen Bank provisions deprived women. Another instance is the
American public entrepreneur J.B. Schramm who has assisted thousands of low-income high-
school students to get into tertiary education.

Social Entrepreneurs can contribute to the welfare of a society in several ways that increase the
living circumstances of the individuals by:
Embracing a task to build and endure social value as they are mission-driven initiatives,
they pick a societal problem and make it their job to address it.
Identifying and persistently following new chances to assist that mission: They
frequently look for chances to grow their enterprise.
Engaging in the procedure of unceasing novelty, adaptation, and knowledge:
Innovation is what energies entrepreneurs as they continuously have to adjust with the
market’s requirements.
Acting confidently without being restricted by resources at present in hand: as they
don’t quit when they meet a hindrance, they work with what they have entrance to while
observing for new means to develop.
The main working regions in which social entrepreneurs create transformation are:
The most important shot in the arm in social entrepreneurship was given by Nobel Prize winner
Dr. Mohammad Yunus when his brain-child Grameen bank become fruitful in serving people
encouragement themselves out of scarcity in rural Bangladesh by providing them with credit
without demanding security. Yunus established his ground-breaking micro-credit scheme with

the confidence that it would be an economical and accessible weapon to fight poverty. It was
shortly understood that incomes can be made along with helping the humanity, provided
income is treated as a means and not the end outcome. The effort of Yunus and Grameen
rebounds a subject amid contemporary day social entrepreneurs that highlights the huge
collaborations and profits when corporate philosophies are united with social schemes.
Great goals – high motivation: Social entrepreneurs are mainly considering to resolve big
glitches in society, such as poverty, well-being, schooling, equivalent chances, etc. This
inspires them to set great aims and makes them more driven (and thus the rest of their
teams), knowing that they are functioning for a significant reason.
Marketplaces are the means, not the aim: When beginning a social scheme, entrepreneurs
see the problem first and then practice the marketplaces as a way to answer it, and not the
other way around.
Public at the core: This is possibly the key lesson each entrepreneur and manager should
apply to their corporations. When you effort in a community enterprise you realize that
people and their requirements are at the middle of organizational consideration. This
means inside and commercial procedures are approved out with the objective to progress
lives: not only the lives of consumers, but personnel, societies and other pertinent
shareholders as well. This might not be new, but it is the important to creating any
corporation workable through the years.
Economic sustainability: Incomes are significant for social entrepreneurs, but only in so
far as they are a display of a monetary sustainability, which in turn promises the
accomplishment of the social assignment. Every business has to be monetarily workable
but earnings concerns must not distract the social purposes of the association.
Social entrepreneurship runs many individuals, predominantly kids and young folks, with
chances in their lifetime that they would not else have. But social entrepreneurship is significant
not only for officials and separate workforces, but also for civilization itself, which requests
new way out if the welfare state is to remain in its present form.
