Past Continuous Tense – prošlo trajno vrijeme

Definicija i upotreba past continuous tensa

1. Past continuous tense može prikazivati završenu prošlu radnju čije trajanje želimo naglasiti.

I was playing soccer yesterday at 5pm.

2. Past continuous tense služi nam da bismo prikazali neku prošlu radnju, koju je prekinula neka druga radnja iz
prošlosti. Da bismo to izrazili koristimo riječ „When“ (kada). Druga radnja koja je prekinula prvu radnju uvijek
se izražava u prošlom vremenu.

I was reading when my wife came home.

3. Past continuous tense je englesko glagolsko vrijeme kojim možemo prikazati dvije radnje koje se događaju
istovremeno. To činimo pomoću riječi „While“ (dok).

I was cooking while Jack was writing the letter.

Tvorba past continuous tensa

Englesko glagolsko vrijeme past continuos tense tvori se pomoćnim glagolom


„to be“ u njegovom prošlom obliku „was“ ili „were“ + glavni glagol s nastavkom -
ing. Također je u ovom engleskom glagolskom vremenu presudno korištenje
riječi „when“ i „while“

Potvrdni oblik past continuous tensa


She was sleeping when the earthquake struck.
I was having trouble with my car when my friend appeared.
You were eating while he was playing football.

Niječni oblik past continuous tensa


Ovdje samo trebaš dodati "not" iza pomoćnog glagola.

I wasn't paying attention while I was driving.


You obviously were not listening when I was giving the lesson.

Upitni oblik past continuous tense


What were you doing when you crashed the car?
Was he studying when you came home?
Were you paying attention while you were driving?
Kao i u svim drugim glagolskim vremenima, upitni oblik past continuous tense započinje sa pomoćnim glagolom, zatim
slijed subjekt, pa glavni glagol, a tek onda ostatak rečenice.

1. PRIMJER ZA PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE:

I was talking to my sister when you came.


Razgovarala sam sa sestrom kada si ti došao.

Was I talking to my sister when you came?


Da li sam razgovarala sa sestrom kada si ti došao?

I was not talking to my sister when you came.


Nisam razgovarala sa sestrom kada si ti došao.

2. PRIMJER ZA PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE:

You were listening to the radio when I saw you.


Slušala si radio kada sam te ugledao.

Were you listening to the radio when I saw you?


Da li si slušala radio kada sam te ugledao?

You weren’t listening to the radio when I saw you.


Nisi slušala radio kada sam te ugledao.

3. PRIMJER ZA PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE:

Amy was preparing a dinner while I was sleeping.


Amy je pripremala večeru dok sam ja spavao.

Was Amy preparing a dinner while I was sleeping?


Da li je Amy pripremala večeru dok sam ja spavao?

Amy wasn’t preparing a dinner while I was sleeping.


Amy nije pripremala večeru dok sam ja spavao.

4. PRIMJER ZA PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE:

We were thinking about our summer holidays.


Razmišljali smo o našim ljetnim praznicima.

Were we thinking about our summer holidays?


Da li smo razmišljali o našim ljetnim praznicima?

We weren’t thinking about our summer holidays.


Nismo razmišljali o našim ljetnim praznicima.

5. PRIMJER ZA PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE:

Steve was watching TV when the telephone rang.


Steve je gledao TV kada je zazvonio telefon.

Was Steve watching TV when the telephone rang?


Da li je Steve gledao TV kada je zazvonio telefon?
Steve wasn’t watching TV when the telephone rang.
Steve nije gledao TV kada je zazvonio telefon.

6. PRIMJER ZA PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE:

It was raining last night.


Padala je kiša sinoć.

Was it raining last night?


Da li je sinoć padala kiša?

It wasn’t raining last night.


Sinoć nije padala kiša.

7. PRIMJER ZA PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE:

She was walking down the street.


Hodala je ulicom.

Was she walking down the street?


Da li je ona hodala ulicom?

She wasn’t walking down the street.


Ona nije hodala ulicom.

Put the verb into the correct form, past continuous or past simple.
