The movie Bareilly Ki Barfi is based on the French novel 'The Ingredients of Love'.

The review praises the acting, particularly of Pankaj Tripathi, Seema Pahwa and Rajkumar Rao. It also commends the writing, direction, dialogue, comic timing and ability to balance different genres.

BAREILLY KI BARFI

- Bareilly ki Barfi is based on French novel ‘The Ingredients of Love’. It has

been reported that Ashwiny and the producers put in a lot of effort to
contact the publishers in France and procure the rights to the book, ‘The
Ingredients of Love’. Her husband Nitesh Tiwari of ‘Dangal’ fame and
Shreyas Jain penned the script and changed the location from France to
Uttar Pradesh. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Nitesh says that
their script borrows from the lives they have lived. "There are characters
modelled on people we have grown up with. This is the first time we
have written something lighthearted and quirky and I'm eager to see the
audience's response," he says.

- ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ is Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s second film, after her critically
acclaimed film, ‘Nil Battey Sannata’. However, this storyline is entirely
different from her previous film. This movie captures the essence of
North India, with lots of fun elements to it.

- The first thing you notice about the trailer of the Ashwiny Iyer Tiwary
directed Bareilly Ki Barfi is not Ayushmann Khurrana or Kriti Sanon – it’s
the music. Absolutely infectious, and groovy AF, it's been put together
by a number of Bollywood composers such as Tanishk Baghchi, Tanishk
& Vayu, Arko, and Samira Koppikar. While the film looks promising from
the trailer, the music is a sure hit.

- Shot extensively against the backdrop of Bareilly and Lucknow in Uttar

Pradesh, ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ is rooted in the sub-culture of young India’s
rustic heartland. The film promises to give you a taste of North Indian
flavours with a progressive approach. The protagonists will be seen
getting into character and bringing out the best in them.

- Kriti, who made her debut in showbiz along with Tiger Shroff in
‘Heropanti’, won hearts with her girl-next-door meets uptown girl
characters in her films. However, in ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’, she will, for the
first time be seen playing a tomboyish UP girl.
POSITIVE POINTERS:

 A classic example where acting, direction, dialogues, screenplay, editing,

songs and music come together to give you an entertaining film.
 The real hero of the film is its dialogues and comic timing.

Acting

 The film belongs to all its characters. No single character seems to

overpower the plot at any given point.
 Javed Akhtar as narrator of the movie is an integral part of this movie
and his free flowing and very non-filmy narration is back bone of the
movie.
 Pankaj Tripathi was flawless in his portrayal of Bitti’s father. It was
refreshing to see a dad who brought up his daughter like his son without
being a bully or harsh on her.
 Seema Pahwa recreates the magic of her 2013 National Award winning
film Ankhon Dekhi. Though rooted in the heart of UP, Bareilly this time,
her depiction of a complaining house wife and an ever worrying mother
of a grown up daughter has a universal appeal to it.

 The male leads of the film, Aayushmaan KKhurana and Rajkumar Rao
aptly played the inner contradiction of their characters.

 Aayushmaan was convincing as a Rangbaaz and an aashiq who cannot

think of anyone but himself. However, Rajkummar Rao turned out to be
the ultimate gem of the film.

 It is a treat to watch how Rao’s Vidrohi ji smoothly shuffles between an

under confident, stammering Saree seller and a converted rangbaaz
who impresses Bitti and her family with his ‘kadak’ style.
Writing & Direction

 After winning her Debut Director’s trophy at the Filmfare for her debut
film Nil Batein Sannata, this offering by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari is a
cinematic treat for film lovers.
 Her command over the screen play is tight and she manages to strike a
delicate balance between an art house film and a masala flick with
Bareilly Ki Barfi…
 The impact of strong writing by Nitesh Tiwari (Director of Dangal) and
Shreyash Jain binds Bareilly Ki barfi together.
 The dialogues are funny and nicely compliment the tension between the
characters.
 Comic timing is impeccable. The comedy is what one should bite into
this Barfi for!
 The screenplay and, especially, the dialogues are just WOW!
 Characters are treated like people, not props. Thank God! I’m sure Kriti’s
thanking her stars for this one.
 The Casting Director must be applauded - brilliant performances, barely
anyone disappoints. Out of the trio, Rajkumar Rao takes the barfi,
though.
 It is one of the most entertaining Bollywood films that has come our
way, in the recent past. The first half, specifically, has a rather strong
grip over the audience.

 Kriti Sanon and Ayushmann Khurrana gatecrash an engagement party.

Yes, this happened! 'Bareilly Ki Barfi' stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Kriti
Sanon were up for some mischief on Saturday as they decided to
gatecrash an engagement ceremony at a suburban hotel in Mumbai.
"We had warned the event managers but the moment we walked in, I
could hear people saying, 'Inko bhi bulaya hai kya?'. And the expression
on the new couple's faces was priceless!" recalls Ayushmann in an
interview with Mumbai Mirror.

Eventually, the actor got the couple to dance to the tunes of 'Sweety
tera drama', from their upcoming rom-com, not once but twice. Even
Kriti admitted that she was a bit nervous, having never done anything
like this before even with the 'expert' Ayushmann by her side.
