IMAGEUR 16 (6”) FOR STENOSCOP 2 SN 4011A

Rev. 1 2122943–100

NEW 16 (6”) II TUBE FOR STENOSCOP 2

APPLIES TO:
All Hyperlux 16 (16-cm/6-inch) and Imageur 16 (16-cm/6-inch) models.

PURPOSE:
The II tube TH9448 F H506, Part No. 45066699 has been replaced by the II tube TH9449 HP H506,
Part No. 2120442.
Special features of II tube TH9449 HP H506 are:
 All-metal tube.
No G3 electrode (no field diameter adjustment).
The G2 electrode voltage range is greater (1.8 kV to 2.3 kV, instead of 0.8 kV to 1.2 kV for the
TH9448 F H506).

PROBLEM:
The voltage range of the G2 electrode is no longer compatible with the voltage range provided by the
TH7191 high voltage power supply (HVPS) (Part No. 58079229) or with the Brandenburg HVPS (Part
No. 45066585).

SOLUTION:
This Service Note describes the procedure to follow according to the model of Hyperlux 16 or
Imageur 16 considered.

IMAGEUR 16 (6”) FOR STENOSCOP 2 SN 4011A

Rev. 1 2122943–100

A. Hyperlux 16 for Stenoscop with Monicon 1 or Monicon 2

These devices use HVPS type Brandenburg, model 821 (C381367), 38 V DC supplied. In the event of
an II tube replacement, this HVPS cannot drive the new II tube TH 9449 (2120442) because the range
of the G3 electrode is not wide enough.
A new HVPS has been redesigned by Brandenburg as Model 821–1 (Part No. 2131405). This HVPS
is also 38 (dc) supplied, and replaces the Model 821 (C381367). It is compatible with both old and new
II tube models.
Before the HVPS replacement, follow the instructions delivered with the new HVPS in accordance with
the II tube model used (TH 9448 or TH 9449).

B. Imageur 16 for Stenoscop with Pick-Up Tube

This Imageur exists with HVPS from Brandenburg, Model 833 (45066585), Brandenburg Model 833–2
(45067332) or Thomson Model TH7191 (58079229). These HVPS are all 24 V (dc) supplied.
In the event of II tube replacement, use the Thomson TH7191 (58079229, replace the HVPS if necessary)
in accordance with the instructions given in the Paragraph D.

C. Imageur 16 for Stenoscop with CCD

These Imageurs use II tubes TH 9449 (2120442) and HVPS Thomson TH7191 (58079229) exclusively.
In case of the II tube replacement, it is not necessary to change the HVPS, the same HVPS can be used.
Follow the instructions given in Paragraph D.

D. HVPS replacement ( on Imageurs )

1. Remove the connectors of the old II tube and solder them to the electrodes of the new II tube.

CAUTION Solder the old G3 connector to the G2 electrode of the new II tube TH9449HP.

2. Connect the G2 electrode of the new II tube to the G3 connector of the HVPS
(see Illustration 1).
3. Connect the other electrodes to the corresponding connectors of the HVPS. The G2 output from
the HVPS is now unconnected.
4. Install the remaining old G2 connector to the HVPS at the G2 output.
5. Adjust the vg2 (LV) Control Voltage of the HVPS to 0 V, using the following potentiometers:
S Imageur 16 for Stenoscop pick-up tube: R5 on Power Supply and Interco Board.
S Imageur 16 for Stenoscop CCD: R4 on CCD Interface Board.

6. Set the vg3 (LV) voltage to obtain the VG2 (HV) voltage corresponding to that shown in the
Inspection Acceptance Report for the new II tube, using the following potentiometers:
S Imageur 16 Stenoscop pick-up tube: R2, on Power Supply and Interco Board.
S Imageur 16 Stenoscop CCD: R7, on CCD Interface Board.
Use the following equation: vg2 1 VG2 1300 vg2 = low voltage
1300
VG2 = high voltage
