They will also use their senses to explore as they
grip and slide the paint under the plastic wrap.
IELG Domain 4 Goal 46: Engages in messy play
activities such as painting, water-play, and
building sand structures.
Intentional Teaching: Teachers can model how
to place the plastic wrap over the paint that
they have painted on their butcher paper to get
the sensory experience.
Language/Literacy Activity Description: The children’s names will be
Activity: placed in the sensory table and the children can
practice identifying their letters and their names.

the children can use to manipulate the play
dough. Duke is working on a goal of fine motor
skills. I have observed Duke play with the play
dough before so there is interest there. Duke can
practice fine motor skills as he cuts, grasps, and
rolls out the play dough.
Child Objective: The children will practice fine
motor skills as they roll, grasp, and flatten the play
dough. The children will also practice social skills
as they take turns with the play dough tools.
Intentional Teaching: Teachers can model taking
turns with the play dough tools. Teachers can
also model how to roll out and cut out shapes in
4
the play dough.
Science: Magnets Activity Description: Pipe cleaners will be cut up Pipe Cleaners Cabinet (RR1
(5) and placed in plastic bottles. There will also be 23 Drawer 2)
the magnetic sticks next to them. The children Bottles (RR2 Beautiful Junk)
can touch the magnet to the bottle and watch Magnet wands (RR1 science
the pipe cleaners attract to them and move 74)
around with the magnet.
Child Objective: The children will explore
magnetism as they manipulate the pipe cleaners
by moving them with the magnetic sticks. The
children will also explore cause and effect as
they watch the magnet sticks cause the pipe
cleaners to move inside the bottles.
Intentional Teaching: Teachers can model how
to use the magnetic sticks to move the pipe
cleaners. Teacher can also ask the children why
they think the pipe cleaners stick to the magnet.
Sensory Table: Activity Description: The sensory table will have Jurassic Sand (RR2 131)
Community (7) Jurassic sand in it along with the community Plastic People (RR2 175)
people. The children’s names will be placed in Sensory Toys (RR2 120)
the sand in the sensory table. The children can
experience the feel of the sand, as they play
pretend with the people.
Both Austin and Noelle have goals of letter
recognition specifically in their name. I have seen
both Austin and Noelle spend time at the sensory
table most everyday. With this interest, Austin
and Noelle can both find their name and identify
the letters in them. Teachers can help with this
goal by naming the letters in their name with
both Austin and Noelle.
Child Objective: The children will practice fine
and gross motor skills of dumping the sand into
the sensory table toys. They will also practice
social development as they parallel and
cooperative play with their peers. The children
will also practice literacy skills as they identify
their names in the sand.
Intentional Teaching: Teachers can demonstrate
through self-talk how to play with the sensory toys
and model dramatic play with the people.
Teachers will name the letters in children’s
names, as needed, and encourage children to
name the letters, as well.
*Blocks: City (7) Activity Description: The community houses will Traffic floor map (RR2, 200)
be set up in the block area along with the fire Fire trucks (RR2, 178) City
trucks. There will be removable flames that the buildings (RR2, 169)
students can place in different areas and send
their fire trucks off to go put out the flames. Tyler
has a goal of sharing and taking turns. I have
observed Tyler in the block area and so he will
have the opportunity to share the blocks and the
5
plastic people.
Child Objective: The children will work together
and practice social skills as they parallel and
cooperatively play with each other. The children
will also practice grip and gross motor skills as
they build with the blocks.
Intentional Teaching: Teachers can model how

Teachers can facilitate the sharing and taking
turns by helping the children negotiate, take
turns, talking about feelings, and teaching
empathy.

classroom. They are able to do this by dressing Fire truck (RR2)
up, being in the fire truck and using water to fight
the fake fires. There will also be a dial pad that
has the numbers 1-9 on it. The children can
practice typing in phone numbers and also
practice math skills of numeral recognition. Knox
and Violet are working on number recognition
and they both spend time in the dramatic play.
They can practice identifying numbers with the
dial pad activity. Teachers can encourage them
by asking them to name the numerals. For
example, they can ask Knox what his phone
number is and identify the corresponding
numerals.
Child Objective: The children will develop social
skills as they engage in fantasy play by taking on
the roles of fire fighters. The children will also have
a chance to work together to achieve this goal.

with role-play they are able to put themselves
into the situation of putting out the fire. The
teachers can also help emphasize ITBE’s by
talking about the protect gear that they are
wearing. Finally, the teachers can help the
children practice numeral recognition.
