The Hystat System Is Very Sensitive To Its Pressure Settings
I have include a service letter that covers optimizing the system and checking the underspeed
cable. The cable's operation is very important to loading the engine and hydraulic system
correctly, not sure if it will help your problem. Check the cable closely though.
Improving the Performance of the Engine and Transmission by Optimizing the Machine
Track-Type Loader:
Track-Type Tractor:
Adjustments and modifications can optimize the engine and hystat transmission performance
under certain operating conditions. Check the following items in order to optimize
performance: Pilot Pressure of the Hystat Control, Underspeed Control System and
Decelerator Pedal for the Engine
Note: The hydraulic oil should not overheat during normal operations. Applications that use
the drawbar may cause the hydraulic oil to overheat.
Do not allow debris to lodge between the radiator and the oil cooler. If this occurs, the
hydraulic oil may overheat. Modify the cooling package and the radiator guard in order to
provide access panels. The new access panels ease the removal of debris. Refer to Special
Instruction, REHS0599, "Modifying the Radiator Guard, Radiator, and Oil Cooler for
Enhanced Cleaning of the Radiators".
Inspect the bottom guards of the machine. Check if the guards are sealed. The guards prevent
the entry of the debris.
If hydraulic oil overheating is not occurring, the signal pressure should be checked. Set the
signal pressure to 2620 ± 135 kPa (380 ± 20 psi) at an engine speed of 2400 ± 20 rpm with
the hydraulic oil at normal operating temperature.
Note: The performance of the tractor may be sluggish and the engine may lug if the
temperature of the hydraulic oil is below normal temperature.
If a load is encountered in a short time, the signal pressure may not decrease enough in order
to maintain engine speed. Also, if a load is encountered with the travel motors in high speed,
the signal pressure may not decrease enough in order to maintain the engine speed.
The maximum power of the engine is available under a load by maintaining the engine speed
at the rated condition. The signal pressure may be set to the low specification as described in
Pilot Pressure of the Hystat Control in order to maintain rated engine speed. If this adjustment
does not provide satisfactory performance, the underspeed system can be modified in order to
improve response of the system. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS0990, "Modify the
Underspeed Valve in order to Optimize Performance".

The Hystat system is very sensitive to its pressure settings. This is best done with the proper
testing tools and the service manual. Beyond check the oil cooler for trash plugging it and
replacing the filters, you won't be able to do much to repair it.

A new spring for the decelerator pedal is now available. By depressing and releasing the
decelerator pedal, the spring pulls on the linkage in order to return the engine to idle. Engine
performance can be affected if the engine speed is not maintained.
If a problem is suspected, check the machine for the latest parts. Check the length of spring
(34). Spring (34) should be 96.5 mm (3.8 inch) in length. If spring(NNN) NNN-
NNNNSpring (34) is not 96.5 mm (3.8 inch) long, replace the(NNN) NNN-NNNNSpring.

If the machine performance is still unsatisfactory, remove the spring (3) from cable (4) for the
underspeed valve. Insert a 3B-4607 Cotter in order to secure cable (4)
