CASE STUDY: AIR QUALITY TODAY

Krisna Nove M. Dawang

Frances Nicole M. Barba
Aimee Faye January P. Lucas

I. Introduction
Many human activities result in air pollution, including emissions from vehicles and
power plants, negatively impacting human health and economic efficiency.
Here are the key problems and issues in the case study:
 How the air polution is caused?
 What are the diseases that caused air pollution?
 What are the symptoms of air pollution?
 How can we solve air pollution?

Most people agree that to curb global warming, a variety of measures need to be

taken. On a personal level, driving and flying less, recycling, and conservation reduces

a person’s "carbon footprint"—the amount of carbon dioxide a person is responsible for

putting into the atmosphere.

II. Background
Air pollution, based on reasearch, is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the
air. Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen and mold spores may be
suspended as particles. Ozone, a gas, is a major part of air pollution in cities. When
ozone forms air pollution, it's also called smog.

III. Alternatives
A variety of measures has been undertaken or proposed and instituted to curb the
effects of air pollution. Solving the air pollution problem requires joint effort and takes
different ways from one region to another. For example, it primarily requires behavior
change and institutionalization of measures that can considerably ameliorate the situation
in the short-term and the long-term. Ordinarily, the solutions to air pollution have focused
on establishing a mix of technological solutions, regulations and policies, and
encouraging behavioral change.
Let’s have a look at some of the effective solutions to air pollution.
1. Cleaning Smokestacks and Exhaust Pipes
2. Laws and Regulations
3. Use of Renewable or Green Energy Sources
4. Individual Level Prevention Methods
5. Raising Awareness Through Campaigns and Advocacy

IV. Proposed Solution

Learn easily adaptable air pollution solutions to enhance our health and
improve air quality. Since air pollution is becoming dangerous to our health, we must
practice these solutions, especially since all living things depend on the air in the
atmosphere.
Air Pollution Solutions:
Inside The Home:
Avoid using harmful chemical products inside and outside our homes, natural products
are best.
Properly recycle all household waste and garbage.
Save energy by using less hot water when bathing and washing clothes and dishes.
Conserve energy by turning off lights and electronic devices that are not in use.
Avoid purchasing products that have an excess amount of packaging.
Install air purifiers in our homes to help clean the air pollutants we breathe in our
immediate environment.
Support organic farmers by purchasing organic food and other organic products, these
farms refrain from polluting the atmosphere with pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers.
Turn the furnace down at nighttime and use air conditioners if absolutely necessary.
Burn natural honey beeswax candles, for they contribute to cleaning the immediate air
around us.

Outside The Home:

Properly recycle outdoor waste and garbage.
Turn car engines off when idling.
Plant more trees, for they absorb carbon dioxide.
Drive less or carpool.
Keep tires properly inflated and have cars regularly tuned for better gas mileage.
Purchase green lawn mowers or have emission reducing technology installed on existing
mowers.
Maintain all outdoor machinery.
Use renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and geothermal.
Support new technology that specializes in emissions control.
Purchase energy efficient products.
These air pollution solutions are easily adaptable and most importantly, they make large
contributions to improving our atmosphere’s air quality, not to mention how they
dramatically enhance our health. We have the ability to help control air pollution; the air
we breathe is too important to ignore.

V. Recommendations
We can control ourselves and we should act carefully. So, for example, we should
use public transportation, avoid spray cans. Besides, people mostly be careful regarding
trees as they are sources of oxygen. Due to its importance we should keep them clean.
Environment and also air are so significant for all living beings. So people should
take into account this issue and they should do whatever they can to keep our
environment clean.
