1.0 INTRODUCTION
The Project is Development of Delhi Merrut Expressway from Km 0+000 To 27+500 Including 6/8
Laning of NH-24 From Km. 49+346 (Hapur Bypass) In the State of Delhi and Uttarpradesh Under
Package-1 from Existing Km. 0+000 to Existing Km. 8+360 (Delhi-UP Border) In The State of Delhi On
Hybrid Annunity Mode.
M/s WELSPUN has entrusted the work on EPC to M/s GAWAR Constrution Ltd. The design consulting
work is entrusted by M/s GAWAR to "B&S Engineering Consultants Pvt. Ltd., Noida (BSEC)" for
preparation of detailed design and drawings of Bridge over River Yamuna.
The span arrangement comprises of 13 spans with span configuration of 13 x 42.4 metres. The bridge
has two independent carriageways (on both side of existing bridges) of overall width for each
carriageway as 20.5m. The total length of the bridge is 551.2m. PSC pretensioned girder & cast in situ

cap (18.45m of soil and
X 3.4m) are
considereded as per soil report. Due to liquefaction of 10.5m, MSL is taken at 196.555 i.e.
RCC solid circular pier of 3.0m diameter. Pile foundation are proposed for piers while Well foundation 10.5m

is proposed
For calculation of seismic coefficient R is taken 3 and Sa/g as 2.5 and Zone factor as 0.24 for zone IV
is considered. 35% extra seismic forces are consiered in design of well. Safe Bearing capacity of soil at
founding level is directly taken from geotech report. The Founding level of well foundation is proposed
as 172m and safe gross bearing capacity at founding level is 125t/m2. The properties of soil for i.e c
and ɸ are taken from geotechnical investigation report and same is used for calculating active and
passive earth pressure.
The calculation of DL, SIDL, LL & wind can be referred from the design note no.
BSEC/1701/MJB/0+805/DN-02. Backfilling behind abutment is considered with material having
properties C not less than 0 and φ not less than 32 0. For calculations of active and passive earth
pressure, procedure mentioned in IRC:78 is followed. Steining is checked for different load
combinations in SLS and ULS as per latest codes. SAM software is used to check the stress at different
section of well. Base pressure is checked for different laod combination without any load factors (in
accordance with IRC:78).

Calculation of Reinforcement
Vertical Reinforcement
The steining is designed as RCC member with minimum reinforcement of 0.2% of c/s
area including 0.06% minimum reinforcement at inner face of steining.
Hoop Reinforcement
Hoop Reinforcement= 0.04 % of volume / unit length of steining [ Ref: Cl 708.3.4 of IRC: 78 - 2014]
9312 cm / m height of steining

Min area of reinf required = 72kg / m3 of concrete of well curb [ Ref: IRC 78-2000; Cl 708.7.3]
Total volume of concrete of well curb = 41.56 m3
