sensory to to sit with on the mat.
Baby doll
Bowl of water and utensil to pour water over head For extension ask the students to better their description of

Jesus started a family, which is called his Church. This family gathers on where they will be introduced.
many occasions. One of these is to welcome new members into the
family in a special ceremony (Sacrament) called Baptism.
Using a doll, the teacher role-plays the words and actions of Baptism.
- During the Baptism ceremony, Jesus makes a person a member
of God’s family as the celebrant pours water over the person’s
head, or immerses the person in water, while saying, ‘N., I
baptise you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit. Amen.’
- Talk about how, when a priest says these words and does this
action, Jesus makes the person being baptised a member of
God’s family.
- When someone is baptised into God’s family, they share in God’s
special life.

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

Christians know that the gift of human life, given to us by God, is a


wonderful gift. People can say thank you to God for this gift by caring for
life. People can care for themselves by:
- keeping their bodies clean
- eating healthy food
- working and playing
- keeping safe by obeying rules. 

People can care for others by the ways they speak to and treat them. 


The children share ideas about ways we can care for ourselves:
Create a Brainstorm on the Board using spider scribe and list all the
children ideas on the board. Can include things such as
- keeping our hair, nails and bodies clean
- eating healthy food
- doing exercise
- keeping the class, school and other safety rules, etc. 


Send the Children to their desks and have them draw a picture of on of
the ideas from the bread and write and brief description of what it is
for example: ‘I try to wash my hands after playing.’
Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)
Put the Materials used in the Baptism demonstration in the home corner
for the children to explore further;

Create a class book using all the pictures drawn with the title ‘We Can
Care for Ourselves’. This book could be added to throughout the day as
the children discover the many ways they can care for themselves and
others at school.
- Display the book in the home corner/book shelf for the children to refer
to

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

Gather students on the mat in their spots ready to go to lunch


If there is spare time have the children find a spot to themselves on the
mat and through a yoga activity
