1.0 Abstract

A healthy ocean ecosystem can sustain people's lives and livelihoods, which is the

goal of sustainable development to be achieved by the United Nations. Sustainable

use of the oceans faces many problems and challenges that must be overcome, such as

overfishing, climate change, ocean acidification and pollution (Lubchenco et al.,

2016). Ocean resources are not unlimited but limited. It is necessary to develop that

ocean in a rational and plan manner to achieve the sustainable development of today's

society.

About eight million tons of plastic waste is dumped into the world's oceans

every year in Vietnam, equivalent to one garbage truck being dumped into the sea

every minute of the day. According to a 2015 report of the Ocean Conservancy

Society, more than half of which came from five countries in Asia, China, Indonesia,

Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam (Thestar, 2018).

Eight million tons of plastic waste enters the ocean system each year, and

those that cannot be broken down will remain on the ocean floor for decades or even

centuries. Estimated that by 2050, global plastic production will be increased to four

times that of today. There's been a lot of ocean life because of the plastic garbage, the

slight illness, the severe death. By 2050, it says, there may be more plastic in the

ocean than fish.

One of the reasons for the ocean's pollution is that the people don't properly

dispose of the trash, or the method is inappropriate. No environmental protection

consciousness of people or businesses can choose randomly to throw into the river to

the sea.

There's a lot of news about the pollution of the ocean in the plastic bags, and

even some people or corporations have been organizing a team to help with the

cleanup of the ocean garbage. Plastic is a way of reducing the cost of the product to

the manufacturer, because the glass bottles or some of the recyclable materials are

relatively expensive (Homeguides, 2018).

But it is not possible requirements and regulations manufacturers completely

banning the use of plastic production. My personal view is that the merchant can

convey the importance of environmental protection through the packaging of the

product, and often encourage people to reuse plastic bottles. In addition, there is a

corner on the packaging to mark the color of recycling bins, which can also encourage

people to pay attention to the seriousness of this plastic for ocean pollution.

In recent years, many countries have begun to focus on environmental protection, and

the Singapore KFC has started to implement a stop-for-plastic cup lid and straw,

which estimates a deduction of 17.8 metric tons of disposable plastic materials for a

year (Channel NewsAsia, 2018).

In fact, in addition to legislating to limit plastics, some other countries have

improved disposable products to be decomposable and even edible. In Japan, local

producers of bluegrass make tatami-flavored tableware. In Indonesia, rice boxes are

made from sugar cane, while in Belgium cups and dishes are made from potato skins.

The utilization of Ocean resources should be coordinated with the healthy

development of Ocean natural ecosystems. Whether it is the coordination of long-term

and short-term interests, or the harmony between economic development and

environmental protection. It's all about maintaining healthy Ocean ecosystems and

sustainable use of the oceans.

The report of the United Nations environment program (2014) on plastics

value: a business case of measurement, management and disclosure of plastics usage

in the consumer goods industry indicates that the annual environmental damage

caused by the entry of plastics into the world oceans is about 17.3 billion dollars,

while the natural capital costs for the plastic used in the consumer goods industry are

estimated to exceed us $99bn a year. Natural capital refers to the renewable and non-

renewable natural resources that are dependent upon the production and service of the
enterprise. When considering the time, could the products and packaging is one of the

biggest contributors to food (25%), non-durable household goods (20%), soft drinks

(13%) and retail (8%).

To significantly reduce leakage into the natural systems (especially the ocean)

in the plastic, and through renewable raw materials, to materialize and reduce

circulation loss will decouple plastic and fossil raw materials, plastic packaging

design, use and recovery in the process of innovation is very important.

More than 20 percent of plastic bags can be recycled profitably. For example,

replacing single-use plastic bags with reusable ones usually leads to a big drop in the

use of single-use plastic bags.

Plastic pollution to the ocean is not solved in a few months, and now the

government is slowly implementing a plan to reduce the use of plastic. In Ireland, for

example, the government imposed a 22-euro tax on each plastic bag, not to raise

income but to change the behavior of its citizens. Plastic bags are also banned in

Mexico City, and owners can be fined if they hand them out to customers.

Under any of the government's environmental initiatives, businesses are in

danger, but there are business opportunities. In August 2018, McDonald's in Malaysia

started a program to say no to drinking straw, and markets have started to sell

environmentally friendly drinking straw in the market. For the people who are

environmentally conscious, they will strongly suggest and easily accept, and that will

lead to a gradual reduction in the culture of using straw.

Aside from straws, plastic bags are one of life's most common pollution crises.

When the Malaysian government began to implement "no plastic bags", many people
were unable to adapt. With the accumulation of culture, and most of the merchants

will promote several green bags to give preferential treatment, promoting people's

awareness of the use of green bags.

3.0 Conclusion

In fact, while humans can see millions of light-years away, humans know less

about the ocean and ocean floor than they do about the moon or Mars. Now, no life

exists on the moon or Mars, but earth's oceans are teeming with life, and they are very

important to us humans. Protecting the ocean is about protecting ourselves.

People are the key to changing the pollution of the sea, and in addition to

being aware of the environment, it's also important to be able to infect people around

you to protect the environment. These actions are not difficult, because they are trivial

things in life, just depends on whether we choose to be greedy for convenience or will

do one more action for the environment. Protecting the environment is the

responsibility of every one of us, not only for our own clean and comfortable

environment, but also for the future of the next generation.
