FIRST READING: Job 38:1-7 [34-41]
PSALMODY
At the end of the book of Job, after Job and his companions have argued Oh, Worship the King (paraphrase of Psalm 104) (ELW 842)
about the cause of the great suffering Job endures, God finally speaks.
These verses begin that speech, which is a grand vision of creation,
describing God’s ordering of the cosmos and inviting Job to marvel at its
beauty.
1
The LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind:
2
“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
3
Gird up your loins like a man,
I will question you, and you shall declare to me.
4
“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
5
Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
6
On what were its bases sunk,
or who laid its cornerstone

when the morning stars sang together
and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy?[
34
“Can you lift up your voice to the clouds,
so that a flood of waters may cover you?
35
Can you send forth lightnings, so that they may go
and say to you, ‘Here we are’?
36
Who has put wisdom in the inward parts,
or given understanding to the mind?
37
Who has the wisdom to number the clouds?
Or who can tilt the waterskins of the heavens,
38
when the dust runs into a mass
and the clods cling together?

DIALOGUE

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
Worshippers are invited to bow with the consecration of the Lord’s body
and blood, each time the words “Do this for the remembrance of me,” are
spoken.

Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory.
In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the
sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the
cross, opened his arms to all. Lutherans believe, teach and confess that we receive the true Body and
Blood of Christ in Holy Communion. If you desire to pick up the cross and

LAMB OF GOD O Christ, Lamb of God
Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension, we await
his coming in glory. Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love, O Lord, and
unite the wills of all who share this heavenly food, the body and blood of
Jesus Christ, our Lord; to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor
and glory, now and forever.
Amen.

LORD'S PRAYER

Risen Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
