Sports Car
A sports car, or sportscar, is a small, usually two-seater automobile designed for spirited
performance and nimble handling. The term "sports car" was used in The Times, London in
1919.According to USA's Merriam-Webster dictionary, USA's first known use of the term was in
1928.Sports cars started to become popular during the 1920s.
Sports cars may be spartan or luxurious, but high maneuverability and light weight are
requisite.Sports cars are usually aerodynamically shaped (since the 1950s), and have a low center
of gravity compared to standard models. Steering and suspension are typically designed for
precise control at high speeds.Traditionally sports cars were open roadsters, but closed coupés
also started to become popular during the 1930s, and the distinction between a sports car and a
grand tourer is not absolute.
Definition
Attributing the definition of 'sports car' to any particular model can be controversial or the
subject of debate among enthusiasts. Authors and experts have often contributed their own ideas
to capture a definition.
A car may be a sporting automobile without being a sports car. Performance modifications of
regular, production cars, such as sport compacts, sports sedans, muscle cars, pony cars and hot
hatches, generally are not considered sports cars, yet share traits common to sports cars. Certain
models can "appeal to both muscle car and sports car enthusiasts, two camps that rarely
acknowledged each other's existences. Some models are called "sports cars" for marketing
purposes to take advantage of greater marketplace acceptance and for promotional purposes.[20]
High-performance cars of various configurations are grouped as Sports and Grand tourer cars[21]
or, occasionally, just as performance cars.

grand tourers. It was founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. Steered from 1947
by David Brown, it became associated with expensive grand touring cars in the 1950s and 1960s,
and with the fictional character James Bond following his use of a DB5 model in the 1964 film
Goldfinger. Their sports cars are regarded as a British cultural icon.[4] Aston Martin has held a
Royal Warrant as purveyor of motorcars to the Prince of Wales since 1982.[5] It has over 150 car
dealerships in over 50 countries on six continents making them a global automobile brand.[6] The
company is traded at the London Stock Exchange. [7]

Aston Martin's recent cars was named after the 1950s Vulcan Bomber.[8] Aston Martin has
announced plans to turn itself into a global luxury brand, and is increasingly branching out into
projects including speed boats, bicycles, clothing and real estate development, even submarines[9]
and airplanes, mostly on a licensing basis.

Audi AG (German: [ˈʔaʊ̯diː ˈʔaːˈgeː] ( listen)) is a German automobile manufacturer that designs,
engineers, produces, markets and distributes luxury vehicles. Audi is a member of the
Volkswagen Group and has its roots at Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. Audi-branded vehicles are
produced in nine production facilities worldwide.
The origins of the company are complex, going back to the early 20th century and the initial
enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch; and two other
manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer), leading to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The
modern era of Audi essentially began in the 1960s when Auto Union was acquired by
Volkswagen from Daimler-Benz.[10] After relaunching the Audi brand with the 1965 introduction
of the Audi F103 series, Volkswagen merged Auto Union with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969, thus
creating the present day form of the company.
The company name is based on the Latin translation of the surname of the founder, August
Horch. "Horch", meaning "listen" in German, becomes "audi" in Latin. The four rings of the
Audi logo each represent one of four car companies that banded together to create Audi's
predecessor company, Auto Union. Audi's slogan is Vorsprung durch Technik, meaning "Being
Ahead through Technology". However, Audi USA had used the slogan "Truth in Engineering"
from 2007 to 2016, and have not used the slogan since 2016.[11] Audi, along with BMW and
Mercedes-Benz, is among the best-selling luxury automobile brands in the world.

In North America, Chevrolet produces and sells a wide range of vehicles, from subcompact
automobiles to medium-duty commercial trucks. Due to the prominence and name recognition of
Chevrolet as one of General Motors' global marques, Chevrolet, Chevy or Chev is used at times
as a synonym for General Motors or its products, one example being the GM LS1 engine,
commonly known by the name or a variant thereof of its progenitor, the Chevrolet small-block
engine.

Jaguar (UK: /ˈdʒæɡjuər/, US: /ˈdʒæɡwɑːr/) is the luxury vehicle brand of Jaguar Land Rover,[2][1]
a British multinational car manufacturer with its headquarters in Whitley, Coventry, England and
owned by the Indian company Tata Motors since 2008.[3] Jaguar Cars was the company that
was responsible for the production of Jaguar cars until its operations were fully merged with
those of Land Rover to form Jaguar Land Rover on 1 January 2013.
Jaguar's business was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922, originally making
motorcycle sidecars before developing bodies for passenger cars. Under the ownership of S. S.
Cars Limited the business extended to complete cars made in association with Standard Motor
Co, many bearing Jaguar as a model name. The company's name was changed from S. S. Cars to
Jaguar Cars in 1945. A merger with the British Motor Corporation followed in 1966,[4] the
resulting enlarged company now being renamed as British Motor Holdings (BMH), which in
1968 merged with Leyland Motor Corporation and became British Leyland, itself to be
nationalised in 1975.
Jaguar was spun off from British Leyland and was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1984,
becoming a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index until it was acquired by Ford in 1990.[5] Jaguar
has, in recent years, manufactured cars for the British Prime Minister, the most recent delivery
being an XJ in May 2010.[6] The company also holds royal warrants from Queen Elizabeth II and
Prince Charles.[7]
In 1990 Ford acquired Jaguar Cars and it remained in their ownership, joined in 2000 by Land
Rover, till 2008. Ford then sold both Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata Motors. Tata created Jaguar
Land Rover as a subsidiary holding company. At operating company level, in 2013 Jaguar Cars
was merged with Land Rover to form Jaguar Land Rover Limited as the single design,
manufacture, sales company and brand owner for both Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles.
Since the Ford ownership era, Jaguar and Land Rover have used joint design facilities in
engineering centres at Whitley in Coventry and Gaydon in Warwickshire and Jaguar cars have
been assembled in plants at Castle Bromwich and Solihull.
