Congressional Art Competition Checklist 2019
o Create a flyer for distribution to all Middle and High Schools (7th –
12th)
o Contact Schools to notify them of the event and to get a POC and
email to send the flyer
o Review and familiarize yourself with the current year’s Rules and
Regulations for Congressional Offices, Art Submission Checklist,
Rules and Regulations for Students and Teachers, and the
application (usually emailed to us)
o Send anyone interested in participating the criteria sheet (for students
and teachers) put out by the House of Representatives
o Working with the Tally office assign a due to the office date for the
submissions (this date will be prior to the DC due date)
o Two weeks prior to the DO due date send a reminder of the
approaching deadline and ask that all art work be prepare for display
at the reception. They should also be submitting an electronic copy
of the artwork. Print out a copy of the application and their art work
for your files and easy access.
o Prepare for the Art Competition reception where the art submitted
should be displayed. (Location, seating, refreshments, audio/visual
system, easels, ribbons, etc.)
o Identify and recruit judges to review the artwork and submit a ranking,
do not include the student applications with the artwork to the judges.
o Once a winner has been identified, prepare that person’s artwork for
submittal to DC at least a week prior to the DC deadline. (we’ve sent
it to our DC staff to be walked in last year)
o Send thank you for participating letters to the schools, teachers and
students.
o Send thank you letters to the judges for the service.
o Make sure Congressman Lawson’s signature is on the winner’s
paperwork that is to go to DC.
