AC202

We all know that Philippines crime rate is one of the most highest in the world.

Children are killed and raped by criminals, corrupt politician enjoys the people’s money and

rebels killed our soldier which led their family broken. Do you think it’s over? Do you think it’s

time to let criminals repay what they did to their victims? Do you think it is the right time to re-

impose death penalty?

Way back in the past, during the regime of late President Ferdinand E. Marcos,

Death Penalty or Capital Punishment is a law but when the administration of former President

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo enters the office; she signed Republic Act No. 9346 also known as

‘An Act Prohibiting the Imposition of Death Penalty in the Philippines’ which led to abolition of

death penalty in the Philippines.

After one administration passed by, death penalty wasn’t back; but now Duterte’s

Administration is forcing the re-imposition of death penalty. Now as I speak, the bill proposing

the re-imposition of death penalty is currently deliberated at the senate. But, the proposed bill is

not the same as the old law because it excludes rape, treason and plunder as a ground for

punishment of death penalty. If that bill passes and becomes a law without those major criminal

acts, the essence of true Death Penalty will be gone. It would be unfair for the victims of rape

who will suffer for a lifetime because of what criminals did to them. Reclusion perpetua is not

enough for those heinous criminals because they are not human, they are demons; A demon

without a heart and soul. Also, Pilipino people will also suffer for long because of those corrupt

politicians who will remain stealing people’s money because they’re not afraid that they might

die because they do have money that can pay others to shut their mouth and how about the
family of the soldiers who died for our country because of fighting rebels? How can we give

them peace and sense of justice if the one who killed them is still living and enjoying life?

I, as a responsible student and citizen of my beloved country; I’m in favour of

death penalty in all forms, without reservations because the criminality in our country is

widespread and very alarming for ordinary citizens and I believe that it is a great deterrent for

committing crime because criminals will think twice before doing such criminal acts ‘cause it is

also their life is in danger once they were caught and proven guilty.

How about you? What’s your side? Are you supporting or opposing this bill to

pass? Remember, think twice, think general and think wise.
