1.1 INTRODUCTION The voting process for any institution is the most tedious task which requires transparency. Many allegations are triggered on the validity and transparency of the voting system. Traditionally voting is done on ballot paper which is prone to be altered, thus we need to give a better solution for this problem. A major solution can be provided by this proposed project entitled as E ballot: Online voting system. Online Voting is a web-based voting system that will help us manage the elections easily and securely. This voting system can be used for casting votes during the elections conducted in colleges, etc. In this system the voter does not have to go to the polling booth to cast their vote. They can use their personal computer to cast their votes. This project provides an interface for creation of a ballot, and casting votes. This project will be a solution in the field of voting for any institution. The main objective of this proposed system is to create a secure environment for an election in any institute.
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT
The main issue with the traditional voting system is that it requires the person to be physically present at the voting booth to cast their vote. Voters who are unable to reach pooling booth cannot cast their vote. Another issue with the traditional voting system is transparency. Many a time’s allegations are triggered on fairness and quality of traditional voting system.

This method uses a piece of paper to cast a vote. The paper is called as Ballot and it is a paper on which a voter can indicate his/her choice. A voter has the freedom to select one of the contesting candidates. Usually the names of all the candidates are printed on the ballot paper and voter has to tick one of the corresponding check box in front of the name of desired candidate. If a voter ticks more than once then the ballot is get rejected. This method ensures anonymous voting. 1.3.2 ELECTRONIC VOTING SYSTEM Electronic voting machine more commonly referred as EVM is one of the few paperless way of voting. It is highly effective way to get rid of the chores of casting and counting votes. The EVM consists of two units control unit and balloting unit. The control unit is kept near polling officer and balloting unit is used by voter to cast their vote. A list of candidates’ names and symbols will be available on the machine with a blue button next to it. The voter can press the button next to the candidate’s name they wish to vote for. 1.3.3 ONLINE VOTING SYSTEMS The modern era of technology has lead to online voting. Many voting platforms are available such as VoxVote, Election Runner, Opavote, Balloteer and many other platforms. Estonia was the first country to employ online voting in national parliamentary elections in 2007. The overall purpose of online voting is to increase political participation. The use in elections in representative democracies aims at countering democratic fatigue and apathy. Online voting is confronted with some harsh criticism. Online voting heavily compromises the secret ballot, one of the major principles of Western type democracies. If voting processes do not make use of public voting booths but rather take place in private homes, pressure of more dominant household members (mostly men) could be exerted on weaker ones.

It also depicts the flaws and the drawbacks of the existing systems. 1.4.1 LITERATURE REVIEW This part of report contains the information about the points such as from where we got the idea of this project, what study we have done to implement the concept etc. 1.4.2 SYSTEM ANALYSIS OVERVIEW This part of project contains information about analysis part of the project lifecycle. It includes software design specification. class diagram. data dictionary etc 1.4.4 IMPLEMENTATION & TESTING It includes the outcomes or the final result of project that means what are the possibilities of queries fired by different modules, etc. 1.4.5 CONCLUSION AND FUTURE SCOPE This part contains the information about the features that we discovered while development life cycle of the project.
