Portaswitch - Communication Service Platform
Platform
Modern communication network providers seek new revenue streams from tools that
unify their voice, data, and fax traffic within a single network, and allow for the
diversification of their current service offering. PortaSwitch is a software-based
Communication Service and Subscriber Management Platform directly addressing
these needs. It enables enhanced call control and voice services, while lowering
costs, increasing bandwidth efficiency, and simplifying the maintenance necessary to
deliver today’s complex services.
PortaSwitch Architecture
Out of the box, PortaSwitch is a ready replacement for Class 5 switches. The
software is composed of a soft-switch and application server. When coupled with a
Cisco Gateway, they provide access to the IP Centrex/IP PBX feature set on Internet
telephone or circuit-switch technologies.
PortaSwitch performs negotiation of call traffic, keeping the calls which terminate
inside the IP Centrex/IP PBX group on the VoIP network. For calls which leave the
network, PortaSwitch will negotiate the call via a network gateway to the Public
Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), where a Class 4 or Class 5 switch is
responsible for voice transport and switching.

PortaSwitch Applications
PortaSwitch provides three applications which address a comprehensive set of
communication features aimed at today’s market opportunities. Our software-based
approach increases user flexibility, lowers the cost of entry into enhanced service
markets, and minimizes the deployment time and costs typically associated with a
hardware-based solution.
IP Centrex
Features the traditional calling functionality that subscribers now expect, including:
call forwarding, voice mail, and conferencing. These services can be delivered via
converged IP access for small-to-medium sized businesses.
Benefits:
IP PBX
Provides dial tone as well as personal and group calling features. IP PBX features
web-configurable service management and eliminates the drawbacks common to
most hardware-based solutions.
Benefits:
Voice VPN

Voice VPN application provides web-configurable enterprise and private dial plans to
route site-to-site calls over private/public IP networks without these hassles.

providers to offer the most competitive and varied offering, while maximizing a
customer’s return on investment and limiting their upfront costs.

interface.
IP PBX
IP CENTREX
With traditional PBX’s, features were limited to on-premise users, whereas, IP PBX
easily provides PBX functionality to multiple sites over IP. For instance, users can
forward voice mails or transfer calls anywhere in the organization with simple to use
private dialing plans. Similarly, PortaSwitch’s voice messaging enables a single voice
message to reach all users across multiple locations, including to international sites.
Another key advantage is with the maintenance of multiple dialing plans across an
enterprise. With legacy PBX's, this task has always meant lengthy downtimes! Due to
its centralized service management through a user-friendly web interface,
PortaSwitch IP PBX eliminates this major shortcoming of traditional PBX’s, ensuring
an end to costly downtimes. A single administrator can provide support for users at
all corporate sites; alternatively, each division, department, or site may control and
provision the system through its own secure web interface.
