VERB TENSES

The verb tenses shown here are the ones you will find in
your preparatory years. There are other verb tenses, but
you do not have to learn them now. They are not shown
here.

PRESENT FORMS

Present simple

The verb be Other verbs


I am I walk
you are you walk
he / she / it is he / she / it walks
we are we walk
they are they walk

Present continuous

Use the present simple tense of the helping verb be and


the present participle.

The verb be Other verbs


I am being I am walking
you are being you are walking
he / she / it is being he / she / it is walking
we are being we are walking
they are being they are walking

PAST FORMS

Past simple

The verb be Regular verbs


I was I walked
you were you walked
he / she / it was he / she / it walked

Past continuous

Use the past simple tense of the helping verb be and


the present participle.

Present perfect simple

Use the present simple tense of the helping verb have and
the past participle.

Present perfect continuous

Use the present perfect of the helping verb have and


the present participle.

Past perfect simple

Use the past simple tense of the helping verb have and
the past participle.

FUTURE FORMS

The future is formed with be going to or will and the


simple form of the verb. Sometimes the present simple or
the present continuous is used with a future meaning.
