CARD 1 – UNIT 1:
Discuss human relationship with animals
1. In what ways can pets help their owners?
2. Do you think there exist real friendships between humans and animals like dogs
and cats?
3. Many foreigners detest Vietnamese people’s practice of eating dog meat since
dogs are believed to be a loyal animal in western culture. Do you think we should
stop doing this?

C. Oh, It is quite interesting. Do you think pets can help their owners?
A. I think they can. As I know, some pets help their owners in different way.
For example, Dogs can help look after the house. Some hounds(chó săn) can
help people find important evidence during an investigation.
B. I agree with you. Some animals help human in work like buffaloes and
cow
They help people to farm and transport good
C. Right! In addition, Pets help human reduce stress. It makes their life more
interesting. For example, cat, dog, rabbit…
A. Do you think there exits real relationships between humans and animal

In my opinion, I think exist relationship between humans and animal. Because I
believe that pets can become friend in our life.
B. Right! In some counties they take pets important and they are often sad
when their pet died.
C. I think so, I also have a pet. This is a dog and I take care of it very
carefully. And I was very worried when it was sick.
A. Oh, It is wonderful. I also like dog but I don’t know the way look after
them.
B. Great! I want to try raising pet.
Many foreigners detest Vietnamese people’s practices of eating dog meat since

C. Yes, I think we should stop eating dog meat. Because of it is the closet
animal of human. It is like a close friend in every family.

C.Now. Today, we will discuss about the gap between our generation and parents.

A. Oh, It is interesting!

B. Is there a generation gap between you and your parents?

C. Of course. There are exists generation gap between me and my parents. The age is
difference between me and my parents. It is 20 years and that is a long period of time.

A. What are the effects of the difference?

C. During this entire time, there are so many technology advancement educations
opportunities and society up- granduation that there is bound to be a difference in thinking
and opinion between the two generations.

B. I agree with you! I constantly have had opinion differences with my parents. My
parents have always make it a point that everytime we have an argument regarding
anything they allow me to put forth my points and reasons to which they listen to very
carefully and then they say whether they are for it or against it.

A. With me.When my parents wouldn’t allow me to have my way. I would become


repulsive and sad because I thought that they are not understanding me.

C. What do you think should be done narrows the gap between two generation.
B. In my viewpoint, everytime there occurs a difference of opinion between parents and
your son this is what must be done. When a young, you must understand that your parents
are care takes and well wishers and are way more experience and knowledge. So you
must not be adamant and stubborn while asking for something and should try to respect
what they say.

C. I agree with you! But I think parents should accept that their children are starting to
have their own through and opinion. They should listen and not impose the views of
previous generation to the next generation.

A. Right! Just as many parents have changed the way they dress more youth fully, so that
they can easily accept the modern dress of children.

Discuss the art of story-telling or public speaking

1. Do you know any famous story teller or public speaker? Give some details about
them.
2. In your opinion, what are the strategies to follow in order to be a good story teller?
3. Fear of public speaking or giving presentation is quite common among students.
Can you give suggestions on how to overcome this fear?

A: Hi, how are you today?

B, C: I’m good.

A: Yes, so now today we will talk about famous story teller or public speaker. Do you
know anyone?

B: Yes, I know a public speaker named Le Tham Duong. He is very famous in Vietnam
with lectures on skills, expertise and immortal philosophies for young people and adults.

C: Oh, I I also know him and really admire his ability to speak in front of people and I
hope one day I can listen to his speakers.

A: Yes, Le Tham Duong is really good speaker. Sometimes, I see these his speaker in the
Internet and it is very convince for me. So what do you thinkthe strategies to follow in
order to be a good public speaker?
B: For me, in oder to become a good public speaker need to have knowledge of all fields
and understand them, like Le Tham Duong, he has a close presentation like talking to an
audience, along with easy-to-understand examples of life.

C: I agree with B. Moreover, he has wide knowledge and convincing evidence are the key
to Le Tham Duong's mark in the hearts of audiences and make him one of the most
famous speakers in Vietnam.

A: Asolutetly, so I see many students fearof public speaking or giving presentation. Can
you have some suggestions to sovle this problems?

B: In my opinion, students should learn more and more class speakers and practice daily
with their classmates. Actively participating in public activities on speech will gain much
experience and confidence

C: You’re right. Moreover, students need to train their confidence to be most important
right from a young age or school.

CARD 4 – UNIT 2:
Discuss your survival story and survival skills

1. Have you ever been put in a situation when you were in great danger or even at
risk of losing your life? How did you handle the situation?
2. What are the lessons you take away from these situations?
3. Do you think students should be trained survival skills from a young age? What
kind of survival skills are the most fundamental and important to teach them?

A:Hello, how are you?

B and C: I’m ok.

A:I have some questions for you, have ever put in a danger situation or even at risk of
losing your life?

B: Oh, that’s interesting question, I read some story about danger situation in the Internet
like lose in the wild but I have never encountered.
C: Yeah, I like B. I have never encountered but I also read in the Internet about lose in the
wild. I see it very awful if I encountered. Morover, if I was been put in it, I will be find a
way to exists.

A: Yes, It a good way, what is the way you choose to exists?

B: In my opinion, If I go to a wild place I must to prepare some things like water, knife
clothes which suitable for place I go. Therefore, I will take it to use in oder to live while I
can't find a way out right away.

C: You’re right. I have ever read a newspaper for survival skill when you lose. It’s very
useful for me or everyone.

A: Yes. I agree with you, so do you think students should be trained survival skills from a
young age? What kind of survival skills are the most fundamental and important to teach
them?

B: Oh that’s a good question. I think students should be trained survial skills from a child
because we don’t know what happen with us. I know some survial skills in newspaper
such as: teaching kids survival knife skills and fire making skills. It’s very useful to teach
young people to survive.

C: Certaintly, teaching kids survial knife skills and is also danger if they don’t use it right
way but we should teach them as long as they are supervised properly. Moreover, fire
making skills is important skill to teach children when there is fire.

A: Yes. I think so. Beside, we should teach children how to give first aid when in distress,
handling skills when lost and teach children how to identify edible foods in case they
need to survive. They are fundamental and important to teach them.

Discuss the use of technology among students

1. Technology is known to be of great help to students when it comes to studying.


Can you take examples of how you use technology to better your learning?
2. However, addiction to technology gadgets is also common among students. What

using technology?

B. Right! In learning, Technology helps student find documents faster and easier.

C. I agree with you. For example, When you want to find a book, you just type the name
of the book in just seconds. You can find a lost of information about the book.

A. Technology is a tool for students to exchange learning with each other.

With me, I often formed a chat group and exchanged learning materials and issues so that
the members could come up with the best solution.

B. Oh, Great! I often use technology to do online assignment, search for information
related to lesson or use it for learning English.

C. Me too. However, addition to technology gadgets is also common among students.

What are the possible consequences of overusing technology?

A. In my opinion, Addiction of technology will make students dependent on technology.


They will not be able to do anything well without technology.

B. Right! When technology addicted, students will become more passive.

C. I agree with you. I see many students who are nearsighted by using too much it. In
addition, technology addiction also causes sleep disorder because they are always in
contact with it without a time limit.

A. In my opinion. What should students to do lessen the amount of time they spend using
technology?

B. I think students should make a plan for using their technology. The number of hours of
technology usage should be given in a day and follow it.

C. According to me. SS should not sit too close or use technology when lack of light. It is
very harmful to the eye.

CARD 6 – UNIT 3
Discuss the impacts of technology on employment

1. It is predicted that several jobs will be taken away by robots. In your opinion, what
are possibly these jobs?
2. What are the things “humans can do, but robots can’t”?
3. As students, how should you prepare your career when much work is now taken
over by machines? (Ways to stay ahead of machines)

A: Good morning.

B: Hi. What you are doing?

C: I am watching a video about robots. Surprisingly, they helped people a lot at work. A:
Right. It is predicted that there will be more jobs taken by robots in the future. Do you
think so?

B: Yes. I think there will be some jobs that can be totally automated in the future such as
sales, cashier or driver.

C: In my view, robots can replace people to do jobs like cooks and construction workers.

A: I think they can also work as a lawyer or a arbitrator.

B: However, we know robots cannot replace people completely. Because there are jobs
only humans can do and robots can not. Such as taking care of children. Robots can feed
children and play with them, but they can not see the feeling of children. Robots cannot
recognize a child who is happy or sad, so they cannot coax children.

C: I agree. Robots also cannot do creative work like writers, painters or musicians. They
have the ability to imitate a work art but cannot create it.

A: Right. Robots also cannot work as judges because they are not judgmental, they only
acting according to what people have established.

B: So, as students, how should you prepare your career when much work is now taken
over by machines?

C: I will find a job where computers do not really do as well as humans. I realize that
translation is a suitable job. Currently the translation tool is popular but it is not really
good and there are many errors.
A: To stay ahead of machines, I will study and work on machinery management. There
will be many job opportunities as machines are more developed.

B: I think I will become a teacher. It can be a safe job because it doesn't involve much
machinery.

C: So, in fact, robots do not take away all of our work, on the other hand, they create new
job opportunities for people. Right?

A,B: Yes.

CARD 7 – UNIT 4
Discuss the importance of art in our lives.

1. What are the functions of art in our life?


2. Among those, what is the most important?
3. People say that investment on art projects and artists is a waste of time and
resources because it brings nothing to humanities. What do you think?

A.Good morning. How are you today?

B.I feel very relax.

C. I feel very strong. Today, we will discuss about the important of art in our life.

A. Ok, What are the functions of art in our life?

B. I think it makes us relax. Because when we are stressed we often look to music or draw
a picture. It helps us become more comfortable.

C. I agree with you. I think that art create income for people. Art people earn a lot of
money, because art is now associated with human life.

A. For me, Art is makes life more interesting. Beside, I think that art enriches the identity
of the nation. It is an opportunity for countries around the world to known.

B. May be! Among those, What is the most important?

C. I think the most important thing is to bring happiness to people.

A. I think so. Beside, art must match the identity of the nations. Don’t lose its inherent
beauty
B. I complete agree with you. Art is help people entertainment.

C. People say that investment on art projects and artist is a waste of time and resource,
because it brings nothing to humanities.

A.I thinks it is wrong. Because each fiel has it own benefits.

B. Right! If you invest without benefits, I think that no one will spend their money and
effort doing useless things.

C. I agree with you. Interesting in art projects and some artists to bring us happiness
relaxation and also bring our art to countries around the world.

CARD 8 – UNIT 4
Discuss your idol and idolization among youngsters

1. Do you have any idol or someone you really look up to?


2. What are the reasons why you admire them?
3. Many idols in showbiz set a bad example for youngsters through their improper
behaviors in public or illegal actions. Do you think that youngsters should stop
idolizing people working in entertainment industry?

A: Good morning.

B: Hi. What you are doing?

C: I am watching a new music video of my idol. Would you like to listen it?

B: Yes. It is a good song.

A: Oh your idol? Is he a Kpop star?

C: Yes. He is a famous Korean singer. Daniel. Do you know him?

A: Sorry. I'm not a Kpop fan but maybe I saw him somewhere on the Internet.

C: Oh really? So do you have any Idol?

A: Yes. But my idol is not a singer, he is a Chinese actor. Turbo Liu. He participated in
the movie "Detective Chinatown" which was released in Vietnam early last year. And
how about you, B? Who is your idol?
B: I don't have an idol. I mean, I don't really admire anyone. I like some young singers
but it's not like the way you pursue your idols. And I wonder why you admire them?

A: Uhm.. I really like my idol‘s acting and I love his personality. He is a hardworking
and talented actor, a sociable and humorous person.

C: My idol worked very hard to become a singer. He loves singing and dreams to be a
singer since he was young. And he did everything to fulfill his dream. That is admirable.

B: Really? But I heard that many idols in showbiz set a bad example for youngsters
through their improper behaviors. I have read articles about idol scandals such as using
drugs, drinking alcohol when underage and adultery. So I think that youngers should stop
idolizing people working in entertainment industry.

A: It is true that some idols have negative effects on youngsters through their actions. But
I don't think young people have to stop idolizing because most idols, they are young and
have good qualities worth learning.

C: Right. It is not wrong to admire someone and we can't stop young people from
idolizing. I think It would be better to have orientation for young people in idol culture.

B: So have you ever thought of stopping loving your idol?

A, C: No, never.

CARD 9 – UNIT 5

Discuss your personal growth and career ambitions?

1. During your years of growing up, what is the biggest change happening to you?
2. What is your dream career in the future and what have you done to make it come
true?
3. Many youngsters only aim to have a stable career and settle down for the rest of
their lives. Do you think this fixed mindset is good or should be changed?

B. Hi, Have a great day! Today, we will discuss about growth and career ambitions.

C. Oh, it’s interesting.

A. During your years of growing up. What is the biggest change happening to you?
B. For me. The biggest change I have ever made is the college entrance exam decision.
Before, I didn’t think of college exams, I thought that when I graduated I would go to
work but I changed that decision.

C. Me too! But I changed my wish. I look forward to becoming a larger but due to a
number of factors I have turned to applying to pedagogy.

A. With me, I gave up college to follow the business path.

B. Why?

A. Because my dream is to become a successful businessman and I have decided to give


up a college to fulfil that dream.

B. I hope I can become a tour guide. But my ability is limit

C. I want to become a teacher. Because I want to have the opportunity to go abroad

A. Great!

B. Many youngster only aim to have a stable career and settle down for the rest of their
lives. Do you think this fixed mindset is good or should be changed?

C. I think it is a good. Because of they have been driven the work them. And they just try
their best with it.

A. I don’t agree with you. In my opinion, changing job will make them more perfect.

They know many things from different jobs. As well as finding better opportunities from
other work.

B.I agree with you! Everyone wants a high salary. If you’re working for a low- paying
company and getting another company’s offer with a more attractive salary and job. I
think you should try.

CARD 10 – UNIT 5

Discuss economic development and the problems it created?

1. Thanks to economic development, we are now living much better lives than our
parents in the past. Can you take examples of this?
2. Together with economic development is the rise of environmental pollution and
resource depletion. What are the causes of these problems?
3. What should human do to tackle these issues?

C. Today, we will discuss about economic development and the problems it created.

A. Oh, That’s a good idea.

B. Thank to economic development, we are now living much better lives than our parents
in the past. Can you take examples of this?

C. Of course, in the past due to difficult conditions, our parents had to live a life without
many things like electricity, appliance clothes and even food.

A. Right! For example; Before our parents didn’t have mobile phone to contact with
other. Now, even the kids have their own phones.

B. I agree with you. Previously, our parents had no condition to learn. Now we are able to
study well, to live in a comfortable life.

C. Together with economic development is the rise of environmental pollution and


resource depletion. What are the causes of theses problem.

A. In my opinion, the causes of environmental pollution is due to waste from untreated


industrial plants.

B. I agree with you. Beside, I think that people litter litter.

C. With me, I suppose that the use of plastic bags is the main cause of environment
pollution. Because of it can’t be destroyed.

A. What should human to do tackle these issue?

In my opinion, I think that should raise awareness for people by propaganda about the
impact of environment pollution in life.

B.I see, the government should severely punish factories and companies that violate
environmental pollution.

C. I agree with you. In addition, factories, supermarket and markets should limit the use
of plastic bags.
CARD 11 – UNIT 6

Discuss tourists’ irresponsible behaviors when visiting a place?

1. In what ways can a tourist do harm to a destination he/she visits?


2. What are the causes of these irresponsible behaviors?
3. In your opinion, what should local council do to stop these behaviors and protect
the status of the tourist attraction?

B. I feel Ok. It’s interesting.

A. I also had a trip to the sea. It was quite fun but I found it quite dirty.

B. Right! Because of the large number of tourist, so it often happens in tourist destination.

C. There are many peoples throwing garbage indiscriminately. That takes away the beauty
of place to visit.

A. Many people gathered to eat and at the end they didn’t even clean up the place they
used.

B. What are the causes of these irresponsible behaviors?

C. In my opinion, due to their daily routine. For example, everyday they are messy, they
can live in an uncluttered environment, so when going out or doing something they still
maintain that habit.

A. Sorry! I don’t agree with you. I think they are not aware of their behavior that will
pollute the environment.

B. in my opinion, I suppose that they deliberately throw garbage into the environment
because they think that there will be clean labor. That is not their responsibility.

C. May be. In my opinion, what should local council do to stop these behaviors and
protect the status of the tourist attraction?
A. I think we should propagate to people about the consequences of environmental
pollution through mass media. In addition, the sea prohibits the disposal of garbage at
places of visit.

B. I agree with you. But I think the government should give law for violators.

C. In my opinion, we should organize environmental protection campaigns or programs to


collect trash to protect nature at places that attract tourist.

CARD 12 – UNIT 6

Discuss voluntourism and its controversy

1. What is voluntourism? Can you take examples of different voluntourism


experiences youngsters can try?
2. Is it right that people have to pay fee to be a volunteer in a voluntourism project?
3. There is a belief that disadvantaged people will not benefit from volunteers and
volunteers should donate their money instead. What do you think?

A.Hey, what are you doing?

B. I am watching TV

C. What’s it about?

B. It talks about volunteer program.

A. Volunteer?

B. Right!

C. What is voluntourism?

A. I think it is help everyone when they difficult.

B. Voluntary is to do what you like yourself without being forced by anyone.

C. I agree with you. At school, I joined a volunteer club. We often organize support for
physically and mentally disadvantaged situations. This is voluntary not compulsory.

A. Right! I find there are many clubs or individuals who often help people in difficult
circumstances in life. These actions stem from their heart and that work is not forced bay
anyone.
B. With me, voluntarily is doing things that you like yourself, helping others the smallest
things. For ex, when you go on the street, you meet a child or the old who needs to cross
the street. You help them crossed the street, it is also a voluntary action.

C. Is it right that people have to pay a fee to be a volunteer in a voluntourism projects?

A. Of course! I suppose that it is the right. Because of making a successful volunteer


project, you need to have funding to serve some of the project activities.

B. May be! Except for projects that require funding from organizations for activities, we
still have to pay a small expense for ourselves such as car money, food and some personal
items.

C.I agree with you. So, when implementing a volunteer fund program is important for the
project to be successful or not. Beside I think that volunteer who can’t pay that money
should still be able to join the project with their strength.

A. There is a belief that disadvantaged people will not benefit from volunteer and
