Overview of position

Job description:

As a Senior Development Manager (Director) with the Online Services Branch:

• You are a visionary and strategic digital leader

• You will champion and deliver the best customer experience across our digital platforms
through active collaboration with stakeholders

This Senior Development Manager (Director) role within the Department of Human Services (DHS)
will see you lead a large IT team of specialists across strategy, design and delivery.

You will be instrumental in delivering the end-to-end customer experience as well as driving the
development, evolution and transformation of our digital assets and omni-channel services.

You will lead a business unit and functions as the link between department’s overall strategy and
achieving business results, playing a key role in managing stakeholders to drive the
implementation and integration of projects at the operational level.

Your visionary and innovative approach will deliver outcomes to ensure the department delivers
quality digital products i.e. web based services, mobile app, platforms and emerging channels,
based on new and emerging technologies and capabilities.

This critical leadership role is responsible for driving excellence in the digital servicing of our
customers.

Key duties:

• Manage a section within Online Services whilst functioning as the link between the
department's overall strategy and achieving business results.
• Autonomously lead and nurture a high performing team of specialists and professionals to
create and deliver digital services, content and assets ensuring the best personalised
customer experience across DHS platforms and channels.
• Drive innovation, continuous improvement, and manage and lead change.
• Lead customer-centric ICT system development which is fully aligned with the DHS
strategy and ensure the end-to-end customer experience is seamless, intuitive and

personalised.
• Build and grow relationships with internal and external stakeholders to build service
capability and ensure alignment with strategy.
• Manage finances, contracts, procurement, resources and expenditure for your section.

Key skills/knowledge to undertake the role:

• Established leadership experience with a proven experience of guiding, nurturing, coaching


and driving optimum performance in team members.
• Strong experience designing and executing digital innovation to deliver exceptional
customer experience across digital channels and platforms in alignment with the
department’s strategic directions.
• Experience working in an agile framework with a test-and-learn, fail fast approach.
• Previous experience influencing through a complex stakeholder network across both IT and
the broader business.
• A solid understanding of financial management principles.

Essential requirements:

The successful candidate will be required to currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain a
Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance.

Work environment:

The occupant of this position is required to undertake on-call work on an occasional basis.

Eligibility:

The Department of Human Services is responsible for the development of service delivery policy
and provides access to social, health and other payments and services. The department delivers
Centrelink, Child Support and Medicare payments and services and Australian Hearing services.

To be eligible for employment with the Department of Human Services applicants must be an
Australian citizen. An applicant’s suitability for employment with the department will be assessed

through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement for the
applicant to undergo and satisfy a national police history check, referee checks and an
employment history integrity check and where relevant, a Working with Children and Vulnerable
People Check. A health clearance may also need to be completed. Any concerns raised in these
checks will be further investigated. If you are currently, or have been, the subject of any disciplinary
or Code of Conduct investigation(s) by an employer, you will be required to declare this in your
application.

Applicants must be willing and eligible to undergo and maintain an Australian Government security
clearance to the appropriate level, if applicable to the position.
