that little is known about. He was very
successful during his time but he continues
to stand the test of time and is continuing
to grow.

Mysterious Origins Uncertain about his birthday but many


believe it is April 23, 1564.

Early Life Shakespeare was the oldest of four kids.

Married Life Married to Anne Hathaway

Theatrical Beginnings When Shakespeare was 12 a playhouse


was built in London.

Establishing himself In 1652 Shakespeare was an established


actor in London.

Writing Style Elaborate metaphors, and rhetorical


phases were used by Shakespeare.

Early Work: Histories and Comedies Most of Shakespeare’s early work was
histories.

Later Works: Tragedies and Tragicomedies After the 1600’s he began to write
tragedies and tragicomedies.

Death Uncertain about the death date

Controversy and Literary Legacy Shakespeare is a well respected


playwright even still today. But he wasn’t
considered a genius until the 19th century.

Birth and Childhood Born around April 23, 1564. Shakespeare


has 3 younger brothers.
Marriage and Children Married Anne Hathaway after his
schooling. Shakespeare and Anne had
three children, including twins.

London Theater In 1585 many things are unknown about


Shakespeare and his actions, however, in
1592 he is an established actor in London.

Final Years Died April 23, 1616. But before his death
he flourished because of his partnership
with the Lord Chamberlain’s Men

Playhouses and the Globe James Burbage built the first playhouse in
England when Shakespeare was 12. The
Globe was very popular and is where most
people saw Shakespeare’s plays.

Theaters and Palaces The Globe was successful in good


weather, but not as successful when harsh
weather came because it was outdoors.
Palaces were indoors however.

Audience Experience The audience was close to the actors, it


made them feel like a part of the play.
They had to pay for different seating.

Actors, Costumes, and Staging Men played women’s roles because


women weren’t allowed to act. Costumes
were not historically accurate.

Stage and Screen after Shakespeare In 1642 playhouses and theatres had to
shut down, however, after the war
Shakespeare returned this time with male
and female actors. Shakespeare’s plays
were performed in England, America and
many more places.
