Kamakhya Temple

Maa Kamakhya or Kameswari is the renowned Goddess of Desire whose famous shrine is located in
the heart of Nilachala Hill situated in the western part of Guwahati, the Capital City of the state of
Asom in North East India. Maa Kamakhya Devalaya is considered most sacred and oldest of the 51
Shakti Peethas on earth. It is the centrepiece of widely practiced, powerful Tantrik Shaktism cult in
India.

Rituals Followed at Kamakhya Temple


Most of the rituals taking place in this complex involve the use of animal sacrifice. Sacrificing a
goat or a buffalo is seen as a common practice in the Kamakhya temple. The sacrifice of a female
animal is strictly prohibited in this temple complex. The temple is also known for Vashikaran
tantra. It is a ritual practice carried out by tantric to help one to undergo attraction towards other.
This practice is carried out when one wants someone to agree with him and his interests in a good
way. By using the vashikaran method, one can convince another person to agree with their
thoughts. This ritual is believed to help people to come closer to each other and mend relationships.
It is believed to prevent divorces and also help to bring a lot of wealth and prosperity to life.

The Kamakhya Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the mother goddessKamakhya, one of the
oldest of the 51 Shakti Pitha.s, Situated on the Nilachal Hill in western part of Guwahati city in
Assam, India it is the main temple in a complex of individual temples dedicated to the ten
Mahavidyas:Bhuvaneshvari, Bagalamukhi, Chinnamasta, Tripura Sundari, Tara, Kali, Bhairavi,
Dhumavati, Matangi andKamala. Among these, Tripurasundari, Matangi and Kamala reside
inside the main temple whereas the other seven reside in individual temples. It is an important
pilgrimage destination for general Hindu and especially forTantric worshipers.

Festivals

Being the centre for Tantra worship this temple attracts thousands of tantra devotees in an annual
festival known as the Ambubachi Mela. Another annual celebration is the Manasha Puja. Durga
Puja is also celebrated annually at Kamakhya during Navaratri in the autumn. This five-day
festival attracts several thousand visitors.
