Heritage of Sudurpaschim: Ugratara Temple

Ugratara is the most famous temple of Sudurpaschim Province. It lies in the Dadeldhura district.
Many pilgrims visit this temple every year. It is most famous for yearly fair, which is called
Ugratara Jaant in local language. This fair is organized after the completion of Dipawali in the
Nepali month of Mangsir. During this fair, many people arrive from different parts of
Sudurpaschim to worship the Ugratara Devi. During this time, temple is decorated and is made
full of lights and colors.
Ugratara is also one of the oldest temple of this province. It is believed that Devi Ugratara
grants us our wishes if we pray at this temple whole-heartedly. People of Dadeldhura district
mostly perform Hindu rituals like: name giving ceremony, rice feeding ceremony, bartabandha,
marriage etc. at this temple. It is a very beautiful temple and it is full of stone carvings. The
scenery around this temple is also mesmerizing. So, even non Hindu can visit this temple just
for its sheer beauty and scenery.
Ugratara temple is the most popular touristic and historical site of this province. However,
provincial government has still not given adequate importance to this temple. Due to this, the
surrounding around the temple premise is degrading day by day. Government should realize
and recognize its importance as a heritage site and protect it from further degradation. If
government do not give adequate importance to this temple, then it will soon be vanished. So,
it is duty of every citizen to protect this temple and to develop it as the heritage of entire
Sudurpaschim Province.

My Online Course Experience
I as an access student feel myself lucky to be part of this wonderful program. It has given me so
many opportunities to enhance my personal and social skills. I first get to know about these
courses from my Access teacher Laxmikant Joshi. He got to know about the entire process of
these courses from Baman sir in Pokhara. Therefore, I would like to thanks both the teachers
for helping me with these courses. These courses have helped me to gain international
education at my home and have given me so much knowledge about so many topics, which was
impossible for me to achieve at my school only.
I after finding about this process of MOOC, first I completed a course from Penn State
University, USA. When I showed my certificate to my father, he was equally amazed and proud.
He could not believe that I got a certificate from USA. Therefore, this encouraged me to do
further more online courses. After that, until now I have completed 25 online courses. From
these courses, I gained invaluable knowledge. As, I mostly studied science related courses, I
now feel as if I can easily teach science to my fellow students of grade 10.
These courses will surely help in my future also. I loved these courses because we can do these
courses in our free time and they are free of cost. Therefore, anyone with will to gain more
knowledge can easily complete these courses. These courses are also very entertaining as they
also include the tests and videos. I really enjoyed these tests, as I was my own evaluator during
these courses. These courses in a way changed my life. Therefore, I request all my access
students to join these online courses.

Our Access Experience
Hello friends. We are Sapana Chaudhary and Reshma Sharma from Kailali Access Center, Group
B. We, through this article want to share our 2 years journey of Access classes. We are the
students of Shree Tulsiram Secondary School and Sharada Secondary School respectively. We
were very lucky to get opportunity to be the access students. It is an internationally recognized
organization run by the USA. It has new pattern of teaching learning style and new design of
syllabus.
Before this program, we were very poor in English at our schools. Our friends used to ridicule us
and our teachers were not so happy with us. After enrollment in Access classes, our English has
improved drastically and now the same teachers praise us for our improvement and our friends
now want to learn English from us. Furthermore, our computer skills have also highly enhanced
here at access classes.
We have cultivated qualities like creativity, presentation skills, computer skills, art skills and
craft skills after enrollment in access. We would like to thanks access classes and our teachers
for making us better as individuals and as students.
Thank you Access.
