Vitamins, Types of Vitamins , Sources and Chemical Name and Functions

Vitamins are a Organic compound required in minute quantity. No Calories is obtained


from the Vitamins, but it helps in regulating chemical reaction in the metabolism of the
body.
Vitamins are not produced Inside the human body. It is achieved through outside
sources. Below are some questions which can be asked in Upcoming Government
Exams.
Vitamins was developed by by F.G. Hopkins.

On the base of solubility , Vitamins are divided into two parts- (i) Fat soluble Vitamins
(Vitamin A, D, E & K) & Water Soluble Vitamins (Vitamin B & C).
Fat Soluble Vitamins : This Vitamin does not dissolve in Water.
Vitamin A
 Its Chemical name is Retinol.
 It is found in Milk, Butter,Cheese , Fish Liver Oil and Eggs, Green
Vegetables Appricots and in Yellow colored Vegetable and fruits etc.
 Due to its deficiency,It causes the human to night blindness, skin dryness and Weak
Bones and Teeth etc.
 It maintains the health of Eye , Bone and Teeth, Nails and Respiratory System of
human body.
Vitamin D
 Its chemical name is Calciferol.
 It is also called as Sunlight Vitamin Because it can be achieved through Light of Sun
and Cod Liver Oil, Egg Yolk (Yellow Part of Eggs).
 It causes the human to Rickets in Children and Osteomalasia in adults.
 It maintains normal Calcium Level in Human Body.
Vitamin E
 Its Chemical name is Tocopherol.
 This type of Vitamin is known as Beauty Vitamins.
 This is hard working Vitamins Controls a lot of body’s tissue Like the ones in your eyes
, skins and Liver. It also protect your lungs from polluted air. It is also important for
making of RBC(Red Blood Cells) in human body .
 It can be achieved through Leafy Green vegetables, Nuts, sprouted wheat, Milk,
Butter,Egg Yolk(Yellow Part of Egg) and Vegetable Oil etc.
 Due to its deficiency, It causes the nervous system and muscles demages and
Anamia.
Vitamin K
 Its Chemical Name is phylloquinone.
 Our Body can produce this through the part of Small Intestine.
 It is found in tomato, Soyabean Oil and Green Vegetables etc.
 It helps in clotting of blood during bleeding and Maintains the health of human Liver.
 It can also damage of human Liver If quantity of this Vitamin Becomes Excess in
Human Body.
Water Soluble Vitamins : These types of Vitamins dissolve in water so they are called
water soluble vitamins. Following are Water soluble vitamins.
Vitamins B Complex – This Vitamins include Vitamin B1 (Thymine), B2(Riboflavin),
B3(Pantothenic Acid), B6(Pyrodoxin), B7(Biotin) and B12(Cynocobalamin).
Vitamin B1
 Its Chemical Name is Thymine.
 It is achieved through Pulses, sprouts , Dried, Rapseed, Dried Chilli, Liver Egg and
Vegetables etc.
 Due to its Deficiency , It causes Beriberi (Effects Circulatory System) in human body.
 It improves Nervous System of Human Body and improves Digestion of Food.
Vitamin B2
 Its Chemical name is Riboflavin.
 It is achieved through Milk, Meat, Green Vegetables etc.
 Due to its deficiency, It causes Cracking of tongue and Skin, Red – Dish etc.
 It regulate oxidation of food.
Vitamin B3
 Its chemical name is Niacin or Nicotinamide .
 It is found in Milk, Peanut, Tomato, Sugarcane and Meat etc.
 Due to deficiency of Vitamin B3, It causes Skin Disease, Diarrhoea, Dipression.
 It is good for health and for nervous system of our body.
Vitamin B5
 Its chemical name is Pantothenic Acid.
 It is found in Egg, Diary products and in Liver Oil etc
 Due to deficiency of Vitamin B5, It causes Muscle Cramp and Fatigue etc.
 It helps in interconversion of Amino Acid.
Vitamin B6
 Its chemical name is Pyridoxine.
 It is found in Grains, Liver and Meat etc.
 Is is responsible for remembering Dream.
 Due to it deficiency, It causes Anaemia, Insomnia, Depression and Muscles
Crampsand Skin Disease etc.
Vitamin B7
 Its chemical name is Biotin.
 It is found in Meat, egg, Liver and milk etc.
 Due to its Deficiency it Causes Body Pain, hair falling and Paralysis etc.
Vitamin B12
 Its chemical name is Cybocobalamin.
 It can be achieved through Poultry Fish,and Dairy Products such as Butter, Milk,
Cheese etc.
 Due to deficiency of Vitamin B12, It causes Jaundice Teroile Glutemic (Neorologic
Disease) and Anaemia etc.
 It helps in development of RBC (Red Blood cells).
Vitamin C
 It is also water soluble vitamin.
 It chemical name is ascorbic Acid.
 It can be achieved through Oranges, Tomato, Lemon, Chilly and Sprouted Grains etc.
 Due to Deficiency of Vitamin C, It causes Scurvy and Swelling of Gums etc.
