Course Description

This course aims to present an overview of IT tools in business activities. Emphasis is placed on
office productivity tool Excel (spreadsheet) and accounting software QuickBooks. Lecture, application
program demonstrations, and hands-on activities will be employed.

Course Rationale

In the modern world, technology has been indispensable in the lives of individuals for it facilitates
day-to-day activities. The accounting process has also evolved dramatically because of the existence of
computers and software that automated the once tedious recording, classifying and reporting processes.
As such, we need to maximize the use of the technology available to us by familiarizing ourselves with
common functions of office productivity tool (Excel) and accounting software (QuickBooks) that would
simplify tasks in business setting so that we can work more efficiently.

CLASS GUIDELINES

 Food and drinks are not allowed inside the lab. Please refrain from bringing them inside.

 Always check if you left anything on your desk (especially flash drives and cellphones). If possible,
please put your name on your flash drives.

 Internet usage is allowed only if there is no ongoing lecture and if you are done with your activity
for the day. Video streaming is prohibited.

 During lectures and activity demos, please close your monitors to show courtesy -- unless you are
required to do the same exercise simultaneously.

 Please respect the folders of other people using the same computer. You will need to create your
own folder for your activities in the D: drive. CAED103_Surname_Sec

 KEEP SAVING YOUR FILES (in case of power surges). Prepare backups in your google drive if
necessary.

 Upload and download of seatwork / activities / homework files will be through the Google
Classroom or the COMLAB Server link (your homepage).

Filename should follow this format: CAED103_SURNAME_SEC_ACTCODE

(Ex: CAED103_SALCEDO_AMN1_EX01)

Course Requirement Concerns

 DELAYED EXAMS

~ Delayed exams will only be allowed if you have a valid reason (hospitalization / illness –
which needs medical certificate).

~ You should have the initiative to request for a delayed exam permit and set the necessary
schedule with me.

~ No delayed exam permit = no exam.

~ Be warned: Because delayed exams are special exams, the questions are also especially
difficult.

 ACTIVITIES

~ Activities during absence = complete within the week (if absence is excused)

~ Submitting an activity without taskbar identification = minus points

~ Submitting someone else’s activity = negative score


TASK FOR TODAY – JULY 07.24.2019

1. Create your own folder in the Drive D: of your computer. This will be your own folder whenever we
have activities in the classroom.

 Go to your taskbar.
~ “Taskbar” refers to the bar at the bottom of your computer screen that contains icons
as well as the time and date.
 Right click on the taskbar. Then go to:
Toolbars > New Toolbar > (Select your folder)
 You have to do this before every activity.
 To remove your name on the taskbar, go back to
Toolbars > (Deselect the folder with your name)

3. Google classroom
Open Google.com. Login using your Gbox account. If you don’t know your Gbox password
or got locked out of your account, please visit the MIS office at 3F Phelan Hall ASAP.
