Conclusion:

The growth of maggots is faster, the smell grows unbearable, color of the meat darkens and the
growth of fungi appears as day pass. It is only a matter of hours for living organisms (Maggots and Fungi)
and characteristics (Smell and odor) to evolve. The growth of organisms and characteristics depend on
the exposure of meat to the open air or environment: Jar A, has the most organism and the strongest/
fastest possession of characteristics; Jar B, has more maggots and stronger/ faster possession of
characteristics; And Jar C has no organisms and has the weakest/ least possession of characteristics.

Post- Laboratory Questions

1) What is controlled experiment?

- It is a scientific test that is directly manipulated, in order to test a single variable at a time.

2) What is the manipulated variable in this experiment?

- The meat is the manipulated variable in the experiment.

3) Why do you observe the growth of fungi in all setups after several days of the experiment?

- Fungi usually grow best in environments that are slightly acidic. They can grow on
substances with very low moisture. Fungi live in the soil and on your body, in your house and
on plants and animals, in freshwater and seawater. Fungi absorb nutrients from living or
dead organic matter that they grow on. They absorb simple, easily dissolved nutrients, such
as sugars, through their cell walls that is why it appeared on all of the three manipulated
variable despite the variation in the container because the meat is damp.
