Essay

1. Managing My Teaching and Learning Process

Answer:

Teaching and Learning are interconnected actions that have no ending. It is a cyclical process
that starts at birth and ended up to death. Parents start to teach a newly born baby to responds on the
stimuli such as sound, temperature, and etc. A dying person somehow learned that earthly material
possessions remain on Earth and be useless to the spirits after death. Teaching and Learning is also a
manifestation of the third law of motion, the law of interaction which states that in every action there is
opposite and equal reaction. This simply means that when you teach you are actually learning.

Nowadays, teaching is one of the most challenging jobs due to independency mindsets of the
youngsters. Learning new things are more available on the society brought by advanced models and
technologies. But as a classroom teacher, I do still believe that the learning I can transmit to my learners
is more than the learning that technologies can be brought to my learners. Many of the learners in this
generation have a misconception of the advantages of technologies. They are more fanatic of updating
their posts on Facebook, Twitter and other Networking Sites rather than searching of relevant
information that can be used to their school related requirements. The essence of Teamwork is
gradually disappearing since most of the learners treat Google as best information provider compare to
their classmates and friends. This is the sad reality that is far from our expectation. So how do I conquer
this scenario? Well, it is a matter of classroom management.

Every teacher’s goal is to make their student better than them someday. Perhaps not all
teachers achieved their goal but I am sure the majority deed. In order to handle the learners and
complete to them the learning process of the subject matter, first they should be motivated. Motivation
is an art that a teacher should always consider to win the interest of the learners.

When I teach my students, I make sure first that they are well motivated. I post on the board the
possible awards they could get when they are participative. I am giving them a concrete learning
through experiential approach. By letting them touch and use the science apparatuses are great factors
that increased their willingness to discover and learn new things. I am giving them the chance to show
their creativity in making improvised materials in the absence of the original one. I am giving them the
opportunity to present the result of the activities in front and I religiously listening to their own insights
on how they interpret and relate the tasks in real life. I am doing these because I do believe that the
holistic development of learners rely on the meaningful teaching strategies of the teachers. But we
cannot deny the facts that even teachers have different types of personality. There teachers who are
empathetic to their learners and there some who are just teaching in the name of their job. Somehow,
to understand and determine on how to motivate our learners first we should put ourselves to their
current situation. In this case we will be able to evaluate their behaviors and apply the appropriate
teaching strategies and approaches.

Another thing I prioritized in managing my teaching and the learning process in my subject is to
make sure that my learners are doing their task together. I do believe that cooperative learning is more

interesting and exciting. Learners have the chance to brain storm, analyzing the topics or science
concepts, and sharing it to everyone. I assigned student leader to lead the group in every activity I
tasked them to do. Yes, it is unavoidable that there is student to student conflict arises but as a teacher I
say to it to settle it before my class ends. I am always reminding them to treat each other equally and
respect the elected students inside their classrooms as shown in their organizational chart.

Since one of my dreams is to produce globally competent leaders someday, I encouraged my

student leaders in school to participate in crafting school rules and policies which are anchored to the
child protection policy. The crafted rules and policies will be submitted to the guidance office in a form
of resolution for the approval of the School Governing Council.

These are how I managed my teaching style. I am not perfect that is why I always empty my cup
so that I could accommodate new things and learning and this is the philosophy I always share to my
students.

2. How will I swim with sharks in the school?

Answer:

I prefer to start my answer with this question, “Who are the sharks in the school?” are these the
Students, Co- Teachers or the School Heads? The sharks in the school are obviously not the students but
rather they are the prey being eaten by Sharks. For me, the sharks in the school are my co-teachers and
school head. Sharks are literally dangerous. They are predators that can kill. They choose no one to
destroy. All of us are just preys of sharks, but how can I swim with them?

Sharks find hard to attack spiny preys. They are afraid to be hurt too because sharks have
feelings as well. In my case, I can swim with sharks in school by making sure that I am equipped with
body gears and protections. Sounds rhetoric, right? The gears and protections I am talking about refer to
the conceptual knowledge I have about the policies, guidelines and laws of the Department of Education
and Philippine Constitution. The sharks would not attack me since they know I am spiny enough to
protect myself and my rights. One great thing also to do is to make myself as big as they are. I must be a
shark as well. How? We know that there is a system in the Department of Education in this land that we
follow in order to be promoted and of becoming like a shark. We must feed ourselves with sufficient
nutrients so that we can be getting bigger like sharks or more than their size if possible. What are these
nutrients? These are the attainment we have. In order to be like their size, first we have to comply the
requirements to be promoted and that is to full pledge our Master and Doctoral Studies. Further, we can
get CESO examination and be promoted up to the top level of management. There is no impossible if are
just working hard to achieved what those sharks have. But there is one thing I can make sure. I will never
be a shark just to prove that I am the strongest and powerful in the ecosystem. I won’t to be treated like
a predator but rather a friend, a leader or a manager who is willing to serve with sympathy and empathy
to my people. It is better to be a whale. A whale has tremendous size but harmless to everyone.
