Insulators
Insulators are devices which are used on electricity supply networks to support, separate or contain
conductors at high voltages.
Insulators have the dual functions of mechanically supporting aerial conductors while also providing
adequate electrical insulation between the energised conductor and the supporting pole or structure.
Insulators are used in electrical systems and are designed to accept Cantilever or Tension loading.

Polymeric Insulators consists of: Field proven
interfacial sealing
• A glass fibre reinforced resin core to provide the
mechanical strength, while resisting the electrical stress
Non tracking,
• Elastomer sheds to provide the required creepage and UV resistant
stress reduction to with stand the stresses prevailing on the housing
system. Two commonly used material are silicone rubber
and Ethylene Vinyl Acetate(EVA)
A major advantage of polymeric insulators is an upto 70%

reduction in weight when compared to porcelain insulators
which can be used to redesign and bring down the weight of Corrosion resistant
crimped end fittings
the entire structure ensuring cost reductions.

Hollow Core Insulators
Raychem's Hollow Core Insulators consist of a glass fiber-reinforced epoxy tube,
aluminum-casted flanges and silicone rubber housing.
Application:
• Bushings for Transformers, Walls and Dead Tank Breakers
• Grading capacitors, chamber and support insulators for life tank breaker
• Current and Voltage Transformers in oil and SF6
• Cable Terminations
• Surge Arresters

Low weight Easy handling during installation on site and in the factory,

Composite structure Provides explosion safety for personnel and equipment in case of
internal fault ( power arc & overpressure) & high safety in seismic areas
Silicone housing Improves insulating behaviour at simultaneous stress of both, moisture
and pollution . High UV resisitance. No maintenance - no cleaning or
greasing - due to the hydrophobicity transfer.
Flexible sheds Reduces risk of breakage during transport and assembly makes
equipment vandalism proof
