ASSESSMENT

1. What value and philosophies are reflected in the teachers’ responses?

You can jot down your thoughts here.

Teacher 1

The teacher’s values and philosophies are more on the essentialism and existentialism.
Because her response talks about the knowledge she can give to the students mandated
by the DepEd, in order to teach, one should have mastery of the subject matter. And the
best thing about this teacher is that she really wants to teach to her students. To value
education is very important thing because aside from the intellectual needs, she teaches
her students in a way that they will bring out the best on them especially the inner being
of the individuals.

Teacher 2

The teacher values and philosophies are in essentialism, existentialism, and progressivism.
This teacher wants students develop their skills and to become good citizens of the
country. And she focuses on the individuals whose need to improve themselves in
preparation into more mature one.

Episode 2: “THE TEACHER IN THE CLASSROOM”

Name: Argie O. Montales Date: February 27 and March 2, 2015

Course Year & Block: Bachelor in Secondary Education Major in Physical
Science [BSED III-R]

Cooperating School: Immaculate Conception High School

Resource Teacher: Mam Cecilia Nieva

OBJECTIVE:

 At the end of this episode, you will gain competence in establishing

routines and procedures, to make the physical environment conducive
to learning.

TASKS/PROCEDURES:

1. Observe a class. Describe the supportive measures that the teacher uses to
manage the learning environment.
2. Analyze the effectiveness of the supportive measures in the different
classroom management areas.
3. Reflect on how you can achieve a well-managed classroom.

MEANS TO END

Among the various roles of a teacher is that of a classroom manager. For you
to be an effective teacher in the future it is important to have the necessary
skills in having a well-managed learning environment.

While observing the class focus on how the teacher manages the classroom by
using supportive measures in the following areas:
1. Organizational Plan
2. Schedule
3. Record keeping
4. Physical Environment
5. Discipline
6. Routines

ASSESSMENT

1. In what area of the classroom management was the teacher most effective?
Which of the supportive measures were effective? Why?

Based from the responses given by the teacher, we can say that the
teacher is effective in five areas of the classroom management except in
the area of discipline because the supportive measures established were
effective for managing the classroom. However, among these effective
areas of classroom management, the most effective is the record
keeping because the teacher thoroughly monitors and records student’s
progress based from their daily performances.

2. In what area of the classroom management was the teacher least effective?
Which supportive measures were not effective? Why?

As we have learned from our visitation in the school where we conducted

our interview, the teacher’s classroom management is with least
effectiveness is on how she deals with the students who are noisy during
the teaching process even though the whole class is composed of only
35 students and that made the classroom disruptive.
However, this cannot be attributed solely to the teacher’s management
since it is already out the teacher’s hands but to the proper authorities
who must had provided the school premise with enough classroom and
resources to cater the needs of the students.
CAREFUL THOUGHT

1. Describe at least 3-5 characteristics of a teacher who can established

a well-managed classroom?

A good teacher should have the following quality and

characteristics:
 Good sense of humor.
A good teacher should possess a good sense of humor for
her to establish well-managed classroom because she can
able to motivate students to participate in the class
discussion so there will be an interactive discussion every
session.
 Patient.
Being patient is one of the good traits of a teacher. Great
teacher is patient with their students, they will not get angry
easily, if students misbehave inside the classroom. This also
means that she is able to manage the different abilities of
each student inside the classroom, especially to the slow
learner.
 Creative.
Effective teachers stimulate creativity, they are excellent
communicators, they tell stories and engage their students
in various activity like role playing, talk show etc, which is
anchored to the subject taught.

2. What characteristics do you have at present that can make you

effective classroom manager? Elaborate how these characteristics
can help you.
The characteristics that I have at present that can make me an
effective classroom manager is being disciplined and time
conscious person. These characteristics of mine can help me in
becoming an effective classroom manager because if you
know how to discipline yourself you will become a good
disciplinarian to your students and to your classroom. If you are
a time conscious person you can come to school ahead of time
and prepare the things that you will need in your class especially
if you will going to conduct an activity so that time would not
be wasted. Moreover, you can also come on time to check and
instructor help your students in making the classroom well-
cleaned and well-organized.

3. What characteristics do you have at present that can hamper you

from becoming an effective classroom manager? How can you
overcome these characteristics?

The characteristic that I have at present that can hamper me

in becoming an effective classroom manager is that I easily
get nervous especially when things went wrong. I can
overcome this characteristic by being confident in everything
that I will do and if things went wrong most especially if things
didn’t turned out to what I expect it to be I will just remind
myself to stay calm and find an appropriate solution that will
solve the problem.

Episode 3: “THE TEACHER AND THE COMMUNITY”

Name: Argie O. Montales Date: February 27 and March 2, 2015

Course Year & Block: Bachelor in Secondary Education Major in Physical
Science [BSED III-R]

Cooperating School: Immaculate Conception High School

Resource Teacher: Mam Cecilia Nieva

OBJECTIVE:

 At the end of this episode, you will gain competence in identifying

possible linkages between the school and the community, particularly
those that will help attain curricular goals.

TASKS/PROCEDURES:

The teacher never lives in isolation. For you to be an effective teacher in

the future it is vital to forge genuine win-win relationship between the
school and the community. To reach your target, do the following tasks:
1. Tour a community around a school or your cooperating school.
2. Gather information about issues/concerns/problems of the community
that affect the school and where the teachers and students can help.
Also gather information about resources of community.
3. Analyze the possible linkages that the school and the community can
have.
4. Reflect on the vital role of the teacher as a member of the community.

MEANS TO END

An observation guide can be used for your community tour.

1. SCHOOL’S LOCALITY. Describe the school’s location. Describe the

neighboring areas, and the community. What historical landmarks do you
see? Are there monuments? Read the monument markers. This may give
you an idea about history of the place. What government institutions are
found there? What non-government organizations are present? What are
the trusts of this NGO’s?

2. ISSUES/CONCERNS/PROBLEMS. Identify the

issues/concerns/problems of the community. How is the traffic condition?
Pollution? How about the peace and order situation? Look into provision of
basic needs, electricity, water, etc.

3. RESOURCES OF THE COMMUNITY. Locate the resources of the

community, that the teachers and students can utilize, like parks,
museums, library. Concert halls, movie house, shops, factories, industries,
sports and recreational centers, health centers, etc. What instructional
materials can be obtained from the community?

4. COMMUNITY ASSISSTANCE/SERVICE FROM THE SCHOOL. How

does the school serve the community? Do the school personnel serve as
resource persons? How does the school participate in town celebrations?
How does the school contribute to value formation of the community?
What community projects is the school involved in?

ASSESSMENT

1. Suggest new ways by which the school can creatively use resources of the
community.

I could no longer suggest new ways by which the school can

creatively use the resources of the community because it has utilized
the available community resources to the best possible way. With the
collaboration of the school and the community, the school has
attained its goal – to provide quality education to the students so as
to transform them into a responsible and value-oriented individual in
the community.
2. How can the school address the issues/concerns and problems of the
community?
We cannot live for ourselves alone. Our lives are connected by
a thousand invisible threads & along these sympathetic fibers, our
actions run as causes & return to us as results”. Thus, linkages and
networking with organizations is very essential in the field of
education. One of the linkages made in education is between the
school & the community. Therefore, the interconnection between
the school and the community is very beneficial in the success of
educating an individual in the society. As the saying goes, “No man
is an island”, that is why, the school cannot do the educational
process alone without the help and support of different stakeholders
(e.g. community, parents, public & private sectors, etc.).

3. What possible linkages can the community and the school have?

The possible linkages that the community and school have are:

1) The resources available in the community can be used as

educational resources

2) The school’s counterpart during fiestas & other activities in the

community, e.g. the school band leads the parade & joining the
street dance

3) Other activities wherein each one mutually give their counterpart

towards a harmonious community.

CAREFUL THOUGHT

1. How do you feel while you were going around the community? What things
did you learn that you might have taken for granted before?

I feel good going around the community. The things I learned

that I have taken for granted before are some of the community
resources before are being ignored are the resources which we
can learn and acquire knowledge.

2. As a future teacher, what do you think is your role in the community?

As a future teacher, my role in the community would be the same
as what is my role inside the classroom. I will be a facilitator,
mentor, adviser, and more importantly be a good role model to
everyone. I will help them to enrich their personal well-being by
teaching the values and knowledge in education.

3. How will you encourage more community participation among teachers

and students?

The school and the community are the mainspring of effective

forces that can create mutual gains and betterment. I can
encourage more community participation or external linkages
by helping and developing projects which they can gain
experiences and enjoy at the same time.

4. One of the most saying about education: “It takes a village to educate a
child,” by Hillary Clinton. What do you think does the quotation mean?
Reflect.

Society is a key factor in the upbringing of children. It truly does take a

village to educate a child. The responsibility for raising a child is shared
with the family, the school, and the community. Everyone in the family
participates especially the parents. It truly does take a village to
educate a child. Educators need the cooperation of parents as
partners in the educational process. In an ideal world, all parents
would be onside, and parents, teachers and school administrators
would always agree on the best practices for teaching children. Alas,
that's never going to happen. First, not all parents are great parents, in
the same way not all teachers are top notch. Second, while both
parents and teachers can be committed to the education of students,
the fly in the ointment is how that commitment translates into
determining the best course of action for each child. Children are
considered a blessing from God for the whole community.

Modern times paved us the way for different technological advances that prevent to
be very helpful in our everyday living. Different technological advances created a new
trend to satisfy our thirst for modernism and high-tech living. With these new trends, our
educational system is also coinciding with this making learning more advanced through
the use of modern devices.

The most common (and I think the most important invention in the 20th century) is the
computer. During those times computers are only used for computing and storing data,
but right now having a computer and knowing how to use it is just as necessary as
having to put a food on the plate for your dinner! Computers proved to very helpful
and useful for education that integration has been the topic during seminars and
workshops and how can we utilize it to help our students face the world surrounded by
modem technology.
It is true that technology has its plus and minuses. Others may also say that because of
technological advances, we are all teaching our children to become lazy and just
depend on the computer. Yet let us accept the fact that time has changed, our times
are evolving and we could no longer apply what we have learned in the previous years
to the generation of today. We should go with the flow. We just have to know our
limitations in using these modern technologies. These are made to make our life easier
and comfortable. We are human beings ad we are given the mind so we can
manipulate things accordingly.

Moreover, because of these trends in teaching, we also allow ourselves to grow. We

are no longer stagnant to the traditional methods. We are now more open to new
ideas that would not just increase our students learning but also ourselves. As we open
ourselves to new fad, we can no longer feel outcast… we are part of the modern world
and we are now all ready to face a more challenging role and that is to become the
teacher of tomorrow’s youth. Why would we keep ourselves inside a nutshell when we
can explore the world? The world is at our advantage, the world is waiting for us.

Furthermore being inclined with these technological advances, we must also know our
responsibilities. It is not every time that we have to let our students tinker the computer
and we would just sit back and relaxes knowing that that the World Wide Web or www
can provide the much needed information. We could not just do that. We are not
teaching them anymore. We are feeding them with information that is not anymore
filtered if they teach moral or ethical values. Modern devices such as computers are
only a tool for learning. It is not the one who will teach us. It is still far more different than
