Simile, Metaphor, Hyperbole

A simile is a figure of speech in which two unlike things are explicitly


compared, as in "She is like a rose."

A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to


something to which it is not really applicable in order to suggest a
resemblance, as, "A mighty fortress is our god."

A hyperbole is an intentional exaggeration not intended to be taken


literally as in, "The soldiers jumped the castle walls."
