Combination of Different Approaches in Language Testing

In my experience as a student, I had encountered numerous types of test and activities that
surely assesses our mental capabilities. Some days I want to breakdown because of tiredness,
exhaustion and loss of hope, but then my teachers helped me gain my enthusiasm towards studying,
because they associate it with different activities that diverts my attention and erases my anxieties.
As I grew, I find it fun to do other things than those considered as traditional test.
Looking back at the past, I realize how important it is to have both traditional and authentic
type of test. It can also be associated with different approaches that I learned named Essay
Translation, Stucturalist, Integrative and Communicative Approach. We, as a teacher need to be
creative in applying approaches in language teaching. It will surely entertain the students, and of
course, with the association of learning. We need to think about the wellbeing of our students.
Teachers must serve as an angel that will guide them in the light and not someone who will trigger
the bad sides of them. We should love them for who they are and mold them for who they want to
be. In addition, in the process of doing those, we should not limit our activities in just one sitting
arrangement. Make them do things, make them stand up, play and be creative. Initiate and unleash
the joy that they deserve to experience inside the room, even just for once in a while.
To conclude, I want to be an extraordinary teacher. I will surely play with different
approaches in language testing. By this, I am able to introduce English language without the scary
impression. I will make many ways and bridges of learning, so that my students will achieve their
goals in life. I want them to remember me as someone who believe in them.

My learnings in the Role Play

In our previous meetings in this course, we are given a task -- role-plays, which we
obviously love, not just because it is entertaining, but it gives us the opportunity to be in the shoes
of our learners or even in our future selves, where we are already educators. By enacting different
real life situations, I have realized many implications that will really help me in the future.
In accommodation theory, there are things that should consider for a better language
acquisition. First is the similarities and differences. I learned that if there is a similarity among the
ingroup and outgroup, learning will be easy, but if they are far different from each other, there will
be complications. Second is the perception and evaluation. There should always be a positive
perception between the two groups. Third is social status and power. If outgroup is superior, then
it will be difficult for the ingroup to learn the language. Fourth is the degree of accommodation.
The outgroup must be accommodating, for them to have a better language acquisition. What I
realized from our role plays is that we, as a learners must see every angles in a positive way, and
as a teacher, we must be sensitive, accommodating and must serve as an encouragement. I cannot
wait to enact those role-plays in real life classroom context.
I have concluded that we BSED-ENGLISH 2A is now ready to be the best educators of the
future. Those mere role-plays are just a glimpse of what we will become and also, for what we
are now. I am blessed to have a chance to grow with the people who have the same goals as I have.

Formulas for Impromptu Speaking

I cannot even trace back the last time I did impromptu speaking. It was dated back in my
elementary days. I was once afraid and embarrassed, maybe because I do not trust myself enough
and I lack confidence. But today, I can proudly say that I am finally far from what I was. Recently,
I became one of the best impromptu speaker in our block. I was surprised and happy, but then I
still lack something and I think that is perfectly okay because I still consider myself as a work in
progress. Despite of that, I am super blessed, because a small progress is still a progress and I will
not stop.
After our nerve cracking impromptu speaking, we tackled about different formulas to
deliver it well. Some of those are used earlier. Nevertheless, It is my first time to encounter those
formulas and I think It will helped me lot in doing impromptu speaking. It include stating your
position, supporting it, stating the happenings in the past present and future in connection to the
topic and lastly, the conclusion. By familiarizing myself with these different structures and forms
of impromptu speaking, I am able to give more information and will finally avoid mental block.
In conclusion, our abilities in impromptu speaking is different from each other. We are all
work in progress. I am deeply hoping that at the end of this course, we are all able to master the
art of impromptu speaking. It is important because the job of teachers are very unpredictable. We
should equip ourselves with a lot of knowledge and abilities. With these, we will now be able to
stand straight, be firm and confident in facing our students, colleagues and any form of crowd,
because we are always ready. Moreover, I aim to be always ready.
