First Week of October

Rosary Devotion
Oct 1-4, 2019

Introduction to the Rosary [For October 1 only]

The devotion of the Holy Rosary has been treasured in the Church for many centuries. It is a
facet of the Christian Faith in language and prayers inspired by the Bible. The Rosary is one
of the best prayers in common that Christian families are invited to recite both publicly and
privately.

Remember the desire of our Lady when she appeared to Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco, the
three little children at Fatima? She said: “I am the Lady of the Rosary. I have come to warn
the faithful to amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins. People must not continue to
offend our Lord, already so deeply offended. They must say the Rosary.”

Lastly, the Rosary could be a means of tying and keeping together all the members of the
family or community. The well-known, Irish-born Fr. Patrick Peyton, C.S.C., founder of the
Family Rosary Crusade said: “When Mary is invited into the home and beseeched repeatedly
with the words, ‘Pray for us now and at the hour of our death,’ she will defend its members
and protect them against the overwhelming evils of today at the two most important
moments in their lives – now and at the hour of our death.” The same Fr. Peyton also
declared: “The family or community that prays together, stays together.”

PETITIONS:
We offer our Rosary for:

October 1
The October intention of Pope Francis: A Missionary “Spring” in the Church
Through the intercession of Mary, may the breath of the Holy Spirit engender a new
missionary “spring” in the Church.

October 2
Support for the efforts of preservation of the environment
Through the intercession of Mary, may we take concrete steps in stopping the deliberate
destruction of the environment and support efforts that promote the value of all living
creatures placed under our care.

October 3
Our Ignatian Heroes: Administrators, Teachers and Staff of SHS-AdC
Through the intercession of Mary, we pray that our educators who care for all their students
be gentle in the way they treat other people. May they follow Mary’s way of treating the
least, the last and the lost.

October 4
Our School Community
Through the intercession of Mary, may the students, teachers and parents may grow in
greater devotion to our Blessed Mother. May our greater love for Mary bring us closer to her
Son, Jesus Christ, and to the people that Jesus loved: the poor and marginalized.

October 5
For the Church and Civic Leaders
Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother, may Church and Civic leaders bring about
peace and unity in our nation. May Mary’s example of discernment inspire our leaders to
think, speak and act in accordance to God’s Holy Will.
