We move then into the Teachings of Law and Gospel, and also move forward into the 10 Commandments to understand what it is that God has revealed in His Divine Law, that man is sinner.

The Decalogue?
By Rev. Kelly Smith
The Heart of Theology Theology has two parts – First, Man is sinner – Second, God is the Savior of Man
All Theology is centered around these two parts
– For, if man is not a sinner, man does not need a savior – If God is not the savior, then there is no hope What is Sin? Sin is that which goes against God's Word or Decrees It is also a condition that we are born with called original sin Psalm 51:5 Well how did Sin come about? Let's open to Genesis 3 Any other consequences Rom 5:12 Blaming your Parents Because its true, they gave sin to you What we see is that at our point of Origin, Sin contaminated us Effects of Original Sin No fear of God Don't trust God Don't love God Actually we hate him Open to Romans 8:7 How do we know what Sin is? ● Read Romans 7.7 ● So what is God's Law? – It is anything which places a demand upon YOU ● Where do we find it? – The Word of God – Written on our Hearts, Romans 2.15 ● This is called the Natural Law 3 Uses of the Law ● Mirror – Shows us our sinfulness – Brings Light to those in Darkness – Shows us the corruption of our thoughts and the intentions of our heart 3 Uses of the Law ● Curb – Meant to Keep you on the straight and narrow – By Threats of violence, disaster, and loss of goods it hopes to stop sin – In short consequences 3 Uses of the Law ● Rule/Guide – Shows us how we should live – How we should speak – How we should even think Law So what are the Widely known laws? – Exodus 20 Though they are written on everyone’s heart, this is the most concise reading So lets start at 1 ● Thou shalt have no other gods ● WDTM? – We should fear, love, and trust in God above all things. What is a god?
A god means that from which we are to expect all good
and in which we are to take refuge in all distress. So, to have a God is nothing other than trusting and believing Him with the heart. -Martin Luther, Large Catechism Faith – Trust Whatever our heart trusts that is our god.
If our faith is in the true God, then our faith is good
If it is in anything else, then we have an idol
What are some old school gods?
Greeks VS Vikings Modern gods Toughest Commandment This means there is a God, and I’m not Him
What is the difference between a God and
– A boss? – A president? – A king?
Why do we listen to and obey the Bible?
How tough is this to keep? Consider that while Moses is up in the presence of the God on Sinai, the people are in the valley like this... One Final Note Before you break any of the commandments, you must first break this commandment. – Because to break any other commandment, you must first determine that you know better than God, and that it is ok to ignore the commandments. The Duo of Deka or what really is a bad word... nd 2 Commandment Thou shall not use the name of the Lord thy God in vain WDTM? We should fear and love God so that we do not curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie, or deceive by his name, but call upon it in every trouble, prayer, praise, and give thanks. Lets do some defining ● Dictionary.com defines a curse word as – a profane or obscene word, especially as used in anger or for emphasis. – any term conceived of as offensive.
● Well that doesn't help...
● So let's use some MATH to help us with this! Algebraic Swearing Lets say, 'A', represents anger at a situation in life or the World But 'A' by itself is not verbal, its just a feeling, so to express this we must give it a voice, or a motion, let's call this 'B' So we are saying, A = B
There is a conversion of feeling into
language But what words, can't I say???
If I text, omg, and I mean it to mean Oh my Gosh, am I
swearing? Lets do the Math! Lets say, C = ”oh my gosh!” B = ”oh my G__!” What else do we know? A=? A = The Surprise, anger, or desired emphasis C=?
So if, C = B, and B = A, what does C equal?
Now this surprises folks But what comes through How many have fallen the Law? short of God’s glory? – See Romans 3:20 Being justified by His grace, i.e. nothing we have done, it is considered Then why would God save what? you, if you are a sinner? Are we justified by works – Let’s read on…. or by faith? Using Satanic Arts ● What's the first question we got to answer – Is Satan Real? ● Luke 4 – So do Demons exist? ● Mark 1.23 – Can Demons enter Churches? – Can Satan enter Heaven? ● Job 1.6 Satanic Arts Seances Psychics Horoscope Ouija Boards Witchcraft Palm Readers But it's just fun...
Let's talk about the Movie the Exorcist
Deceiving by His name
This is done by teaching False doctrine, that is
lying about what the Bible says, or Pretending to be a Christian when you aren’t False Doctrine
The Road to Hell is paved with Good Intentions
There are a great number of problems in the world, the
greatest is false doctrine False doctrine changes who or what God is False Doctrine Which is more important? Right Living or Right Doctrine
Consider for a Moment
You want to have good (chocolate chip) pancakes But you don't care about ingredients... Bugs in the Flour are fine, rotten eggs, curdled milk, and rancid butter YUM! False Doctrine How can we expect to have Good Works(right living), if we don't have the right ingredients, (right doctrine)
This is why it is a Church members duty to make sure that
the Pastor’s preaching is in keeping with the Scriptures, because if the Pastor is allowed to go on preaching falsely, he is leading the congregation to an idol, even if he means well. Capt. Picard
Villains who twirl their
moustaches are easy to spot. Those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well-camouflaged. – Picard, The Drumhead (S4E21) How are we to use God's name? Every time we run into trouble that we turn to him first, knowing that since we bear the name of God He will keep us safe Every prayer trusting that when we pray in the name of Jesus that our prayers are answered Praise Him not just one day a week, but with our whole lives Give thanks, for all that He has given to us, most especially His name. God Bless
