Group 5

Process Question: Which of the two photos are more attractive than the other? Why?

Answers:
 The colored picture is more attractive than the picture with black and white color. The colored picture has
different colors. These colors are important to create nice mood on pictures.

 Those pictures have something to do with FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE.

 FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE / FIGURES OF SPEECH help the writer paint a picture in the reader’s mind.
 We use FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE / FIGURES OF SPEECH to add color, interest, and awaken the
imagination.

D. Analysis: Through a PowerPoint Presentation, the teacher will discuss the topic.
There are many types of FIGURES OF SPEECH. We have already discussed some of them like Idioms,
Alliteration, Onomatopoeia, and Hyperbole. And today, we will discuss the three commonly used figures of speech.
These are the SIMILE, METAPHOR and PERSONIFICATION.

1. SIMILE
A SIMILE is a comparison of two unlike objects with the use of “like” or “as” .

An example would be “busy as a bee”.

You are as beautiful as the flower. My father looks like Rodrigo

Duterte.
Filipinos are fond of using figurative languages. In Filipino it is called Tayutay.

Simile Pagtututlad Ikaw ay tulad ng bituin. Daw bituon ikaw sa langit.
You are like a star.
Ang imo tagipusuon daw
Ang puso mo ay gaya ng bato ka tig-a.
bato.
Your heart is like a stone.

2. METAPHOR

A metaphor is a comparison of two unrelated objects without the use of as or like.

• This is like Simile, but it compares the You are my sun.
objects into totally different ideas.

• You light up my life.

My Math teacher is a dragon.

That boy is a pig.

Metaphor Pagwawangis Ahas ka! Man-og
You’re a snake! Ka!/Traidor!Sapat!

magandang bulaklak. Si Elena isa ka matahum

3. PERSONIFICATION
When you speak of things as though they were persons, you are using personification. Personification is giving
human qualities to objects or ideas.
An example may be,
• The pizza slice dances with the music.
“My teddy bear gave me a hug.”

• Coffee wakes up the donut.
