CBIC introduced weightage system for appointments under compassionate appointment scheme
Recently, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has introduced a weightage system
for appointments under compassionate grounds which will be based on nine criteria like family
income, dependents, remaining service period of the deceased etc. The objective is to ensure
objectivity, transparency and uniformity in the selection process for appointments on the
compassionate ground.
A Lancet study evaluated that India had the highest mortality rate among children under five
years of age in 2015
Researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, US (United States)
evaluated India’s state-level information on the causes of casualty among children under 5 years
of age for the years 2000-2015, to find that India had progressed from reducing the annual
mortality among children under 5 years from 2.5 million in 2000 to 1.2 million in 2015 which, still
was the highest in the world.The research studies were published in The Lancet Global Health.
GSI in its report notified that the highest graphite reserves of India are found in Arunachal
Pradesh
The Geological Survey of India (GSI) in its report notified that the highest graphite reserves of
India, that is, around 35% of India’s total Graphite reserves are found in Arunachal Pradesh.
Graphite, also known as a dry lubricant for its greasy feel, is the most stable allotrope of Carbon,
with standard entropy being zero. Under high pressures and temperatures Graphite converts to
diamond.
The Maharashtra Cabinet provides approval for the promulgation of ordinance on Maratha quota
In order to provide reservation to Maratha students in post- graduate medical courses, the
Maharashtra Cabinet approved to circulate an ordinance to amend the Socially and Educationally

India-Botswana Foreign Office Consultations held in New Delhi
The 3rd round of Foreign Office Consultations between India and Botswana was held in New Delhi
on 15th May, 2019. Indian delegation was led by Neena Malhotra, Joint Secretary (East and
Southern Africa) and the Botswana delegation led by Tapiwa Mongwa, Deputy Permanent
Secretary in the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation. Botswana government had also
decided to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

The (CBIC) Government launches Project SPARROW for CBIC officers for over 400 formations of
CBIC across India
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) notified that for better human resource
management, it will conduct annual performance appraisal report (APARs) of over 46,000 Group
B and C officers (IRS– Indian Revenue Service officers in Customs and Central Excise in 2016-17)
online in SPARROW (Smart Performance Appraisal Report Recording Online Window). The
project serves as a key landmark in the path towards digitisation and paper-less working.
Crop insurance under PMFBY failed
The flagship program of Prime Minister Modi, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bema Yojana (PMFBY) which
provides crop insurance to farmers has failed. Recently, senior official from Agriculture Ministry
disclosed that out of Rs 1,400 crore designated fund for the North-Eastern state annually under
PMFBY, only around 0.57% or Rs 8 crore was spent in 2018-19.
Kerala became first state to list Masala Bond in overseas market
Recently, Kerala became the first state to tap into masala bond market by listing the Kerala
Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB)’s masala bond worth of USD 312 million (Rs 2,150
crore) in London Stock Exchange (LSE)’s International Securities Market (ISM). The masala bond
has tenor of 5-year and a 9.723% coupon.

trip
India’s fastest train ‘Vande Bharat Express’ completed 1 Lakh kilometers without missing single
trip. It was flagged off by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi under ‘Make In India’ Initiative, on
February 15, 2019 from New Delhi to Varanasi. This 16 coach train began its commercial run from
February 17, 2019. The indigenously-built high-speed train was manufactured by the Integral
Coach Factory in Chennai.
Afghanistan’s High Peace Council Secretary- Umer Daudzai’s visit to India

Afghanistan’s High Peace Council Secretary who briefed her on the outcome of the recently held
the historic ‘Loya Jirga’ or peace meeting in Kabul. Loya jirga” peace summit in Kabul was held in
May, 2019 which had around 3,200 religious and tribal leaders, politicians and representatives.
India finds problems with current methodology of STRI computed by OCED
India has found issues with the present method under which the Organisation for Economic
Cooperation and Development (OECD) ranks countries based on their Services Trade
Restrictiveness Index (STRI) as per the study commissioned by the Commerce Ministry. The OECD
index shows the Indian services sector as 1 of the most restrictive globally, mainly in policy areas
like foreign entry, (FDI) Foreign Direct investment. When, the truth of the matter is, since 1991,
FDI is the one area that has seen the maximum liberalization in India.

India joins global initiative termed ‘Christchurch call to action’ to fight against extremism online
India joined France, New Zealand, Canada and several other nations in launching a key initiative,
termed ‘Christchurch call to action’ in Paris to fight against online terrorism and extremism and
make the internet secure. The initiative is headed by New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern
and France’s President Emmanuel Macron.
Taiwan becomes the first country in Asia to legalise same-sex marriage
For the first time in Asia, Taiwan’s parliament legalised same-sex marriage, as lawmakers passed
a bill permitting same-sex couples to form ‘exclusive permanent unions‘ which would let them
apply for a ‘marriage registration’ (under Clause Four) with government agencies. The vote took
place on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, that is on 17th
May, 2019.
For the first time, the Government of Saudi Arabia approves permanent residency to certain
expatriates to attract long-term investments
For the first time, the Cabinet of Saudi Arabia approved to give permanent residency to certain
expatriates by allowing them to own real estates. They are eligible to reside with their families
without a Saudi sponsor(Kafeel). This new system is named as the “Privileged Iqama”. The
scheme is commonly called as the Saudi Green Card.
Global Drug Survey 2019
According to the 8th edition of Global Drug Survey (GDS) 2019, Indians are seeking help more
than any other countries to reduce their alcohol intake. The survey was conducted online in
between October and December 2018. Around 1,00,000 respondents from 30 countries have
participated in the online survey. People participated from India are mostly male (age 25 to 34
years). GDS is an independent research organization based in London, UK.
The 26th edition of Singapore India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) was held in Singapore
INS Kolkata (being designed and built in India, it is an advanced stealth destroyer capable of
engaging multiple threats from the air, sea and underwater) and INS Shakti (is a fleet support ship
that provides fuel, provisions and munitions to warships at sea), the 2 warships of the Indian
Navy participated in the SIMBEX scheduled from 16th May 2019 to 22th May 2019, the longest
uninterrupted naval exercise that India has with any other nation.
CTBTO has offered India an ‘Observer’ status and access to IMS data
CTBTO (The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation) has offered India an
'Observer' status and access to the International Monitoring System (IMS) data. CTBT is a global
treaty that runs IMS which constantly monitors the Earth for nuclear explosions and shares
evaluative findings with its member states. CTBTO's headquarters is in Vienna, Austria.ii.
Currently, IMS has 337 facilities, located in 89 nations.
US President Donald Trump rolled out new ‘Merit-Based Immigration System’
US President Donald Trump in an announcement in Rose Garden speech, unveiled a new ‘Merit-
Based Immigration System’. This is a point based system for professionals where skills of the
people will be preferred for permanent residency against the current country based quotas which
requires family ties for green cards. It will replace the existing green cards with ‘Build America’
visa.
TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) gas pipeline meet held in Turkmenistan
The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline meeting was held in Ashgabat,
Turkmenistan. The Pakistani delegation led by Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on
Petroleum, Nadeem Babar attended the meet to finalize the groundbreaking of the project, which
will be held in Pakistan in October, 2019. The TAPI gas pipeline project is expected to be
completed by 2022 in Pakistan.
UAE launched ‘golden card’ permanent residency scheme
The United Arab Emirates has launched ‘golden card’ permanent residency scheme to woo
wealthy investors and exceptional talents such as doctors, engineers, scientists, students, and
artist. This move can attract Indian professionals and businessmen to UAE and total 6,800 people
will get the benefit of the scheme under the first round of applications.

HDFC ERGO and IBM to jointly setup data lab in India to improve business efficiency and
profitability
HDFC ERGO, General Insurance Company and IBM, technology giant, announced to jointly setup
data lab in India to improve business efficiency and profitability. It will analyze the customer data
and develop customized solutions. The experts from HDFC ERGO and a team of 25 experts from
IBM Garage are working together to improve customer experience by working on different test
cases. No amount has been disclosed for setting up the lab.

HDFC Capital Advisors, (a wholly-owned subsidiary of HDFC Ltd) launched an initiative termed as

products that aim at lowering costs and creating efficiencies in every stage of the development
cycle of the affordable housing system.

Bajaj Finserv, through its lending arm Bajaj Finance Ltd has launched a specialised insurance
cover titled “Mumbai Local Train Cover” for passengers travelling in local trains in Mumbai. The
passengers will get an insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh against a payment of Rs 399 per annum. Local
train travellers who are eligible for this insurance cover are persons above 18 years of age and
below 70 years of age.
Nandan Nilekani-led panel submitted report to RBI regarding the promotion of digital payments
RBI-appointed committee chaired by Nandan Nilekani, Aadhaar architect, submitted the panel’s
suggestions on promoting digital payments to Shaktikanta Das, the Governor of RBI. RBI will
examine the recommendations of the committee and will link the action points in its 'Payment
and Settlement Systems in India: Vision 2019 - 2021'.
Tripura Gramin Bank among top RRB performer in the country
Tripura Gramin Bank has posted a profit for 7 successive years to Rs 125.45 crore in fiscal 2018-
19. The Bank also registered the business of Rs. 9,000 crores, with net Non-Performing Asset
(NPA) of zero percent and gross NPA of 8.94 percent.
RBI directed bigger NBFCs to appoint Chief Risk Officer
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs) which
have assets over Rs 5000 crore to appoint a chief risk officer (CRO). The rationale behind this
direction is to improve standards of risk management practices of NBFCs. The primary role of the
CRO is to identify, measure and mitigate risk and all credit products shall be assessed by CRO with
an objective to control risks.
RBI data marked 27% rise in Debit card PoS swipes
In accordance with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data, debit card swipes on Point of Sales (PoS)
terminals have been increased over 27% in March 2019 in comparison to the same period of
2018. While, withdrawals from ATM hiked at a low rate of 15%. People using their debit cards not
only for merchant payments directly, but they are also not withdrawing cash to pay each other.
This results in the acceleration of digitization.
World Bank and CBA joined hands for World’s first Blockchain Bond Transaction
International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD, World Bank) in partnership with
Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) enabled recording of secondary market bond trading
using blockchain technology. With this, Bond-i become the first bond whose issuance and trading
is recorded on a blockchain platform. Bond-i, first issued in August 2018 by World Bank, is the
world's first bond entirely based on blockchain, a type of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT).
Ola launches Ola Money SBI Credit Card
Transport Company, Ola Cabs has launched Ola Money SBI Credit Card in partnership with SBI
Card to provide a flexible and convenient payment system to its customers. The credit card is
powered by Visa. This partnership will enhance the co-brand card portfolio and also enable SBI
Card to access Ola’s vast customer base to make new acquisitions.

SBI has joined hands with FMCG Arm of The Art of Living — Sri Sri Tattva
State Bank of India (SBI) has tied up with the FMCG arm of The Art of Living, Sri Sri Tattva under
which SBI's YONO users can avail a discount of 15% on the entire range of products offered by Sri
Sri Tattva such as food, personal care, healthcare, homecare, BYOGI apparels and Shankara
skincare products. YONO is an integrated digital banking platform of SBI.
Bank credit has increased by 18.5% to infrastructure sector in FY19
In accordance with the data compiled by Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the bank credit has been
mounted by 18.5% to Rs 10.55 lakh crore for infrastructure in financial year 2018-19. It is highest
since 2012-13 fiscal. Loans to the power sector had increased by 5% to Rs 5.69 lakh crore
compared to Rs 5.19 lakh crore in FY18. Also, credit growth to roads sector mounted 2% to Rs
1.86 lakh crore as of end-March 2019.

Karnataka Bank has launched a customized product for the salaried class. The new savings bank
product, KBL SB Salary has been designed with three variants namely SB Salary Executive, SB
Salary Prime, and SB Salary Classic to cater the financial needs of the ‘employer-employee
ecosystem’. All three variants do not have the minimum balance criteria instead they have
Digitally Powered features.
Mutual funds gets SEBI nod to invest in exchange traded commodity derivatives
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has given its consent for the participation of
mutual funds (MF) in exchange-traded commodity derivatives (ETCD) except sensitive
commodities. The participation of MFs is allowed through hybrid schemes, which include multi-
asset scheme and gold ETFs (Exchange-traded fund).
576th RBI’s Central Board meeting held at Chennai
The 576th two day meet of the Central Board of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was held in Chennai,
Tamil Nadu, under the Chairmanship of Governor Shaktikanta Das. During the meet, it was
decided to create a "Specialised Supervisory and Regulatory Cadre" with RBI, to strengthen the
supervision and regulation of commercial banks, urban cooperative banks and Non-Banking
Financial Companies (NBFC).
ADB granted $750 mn loan to India for Railway Track Electrification Project
Asian Development Bank (ADB) has inked an agreement with Indian Railway Finance Corporation
(IRFC), an entity owned by Government of India (GOI) to provide USD 750 million long-term
financing for the Railways Track Electrification Project, as part of a broad modernization program
to reduce the dependence India’s railway sector on fossil fuels. It is the largest single non-
sovereign loan ever.
SEBI & IRDAI to introduce Regulatory Sandbox Framework for Fintech Startups
On the lines of the initiative taken by Reserve Bank of India (RBI), regarding the setting up of the
regulatory sandbox (RS) in its draft “Enabling Framework for Regulatory Sandbox” in April for
fintech innovations; the market watchdog Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and
insurance watchdog Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) have also
introduced the similar RS. SEBI has released a testing environment, “Innovation Sandbox”, for
firms not regulated by SEBI and also for individuals. On the other hand, for the IRDAI sandbox, an
applicant should have a net worth of Rs 10 lakh with proven financial record of at least one year.

United States Patent and Trademark Office.
National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority reduced the prices of 9 Non-Scheduled Cancer Drugs
by 87%
National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) reduced the prices of 9 Non-Scheduled Cancer
Drugs by 87%. This decision was brought out by NPPA’s May 15 memorandum in its price control
framework. It has approved the proposal to cap trade margins of all medicines at 30%. This is a
major step to make the anti-cure drugs including chemotherapy injections for lung cancer
treatments, available at affordable prices.
NITI Aayog proposed Rs 7,500 crore plan for Artificial Intelligence
Recently, a policy think tank NITI Aayog has proposed a plan for Artificial Intelligence (AI) by
creating a cloud computing platform named AIRAWAT and research institutes. NITI Aayog has
circulated a cabinet note to provide Rs 7,500 crore funding for a 3-year period and set up a high-
level task force to oversee roll-out and implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Indian Economy projected to grow at 7.1% in fiscal year 2020 as per UN report
According to the report of the United Nations, India's economy is projected to grow at 7.1% in the
fiscal year 2020 as a result of strong domestic consumption and investment. It is a downward
revision from 7.4% which was estimated in January 2019. India remains the fastest growing
economy in the world ahead of China, despite of the downward revision of the projected growth.
Tech Mahindra signed defence contract with Indian Navy
Tech Mahindra signed a defence contract worth of Rs 300 crore with Indian Navy. Under ‘Armed
Forces Secure Access Card’ (AFSAC) Project, Tech Mahindra will implement Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) based Access Control System across all naval bases and ships. It will replace
the existing paper-based identity cards for all Navy personnel which also includes dependents
and ex-servicemen.
Due to US-China tensions, OECD cuts global growth forecast
Recently, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has reduced the
global growth forecast to 3.2% as compared to earlier forecast of 3.3% due to US-China trade war.
FSSAI permitted ‘Small Organic Growers’ to sell produce without certification till April 2020
Recently, Food Safety and Standards Authority in India (FSSAI) has allowed ‘small organic
producers’ which are having an annual turnover over Rs 12 lakh can sell their products directly to
customers without certification till April 2020. However, they can’t use Jaivik Bharat Logo on their
product.
India’s exports grew by 1.34 % in April to USD 44 billion
According to Commerce Ministry data, India’s export has grown by 1.34% in April 2019 to USD
44.06 billion meanwhile imports has grown by 4.53 % to USD 52.83 billion. Thus, the trade deficit
is USD 8.78 billion in April 2019 as compared to USD 7.07 billion in April 2018.

One of the paintings of 1890 named ‘Mueles’ (Grainstacks) of Claude Monet was sold for a record
breaking price of $110.7 million (Rs.778 crore) at Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art Evening
Sale. It became the ninth most expensive work ever sold in the auction. The painting ‘Mueles’ is an
oil on canvas which was completed in the year 1890.

in New Delhi. The team expects to scale the 6010-meter high Mt Tenchenkhang by the end of June

UNESCO incorporated Indian part of Kailash Mansarovar in tentative list of World Heritage Sites
Ministry of Culture, Government of India, reported that the United Nations Educational, Scientific
and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) incorporated Indian part of Kailash Mansarovar popularly
known as Mount Kailash in the tentative list of World Heritage Sites. It is categorized under
natural as well as a cultural heritage. Kailash Mansarovar is the highest peak in Kailash range
located in Lake Mansarovar in the remote south-western portion of the Tibet Autonomous Region
of China and adjacent districts in the far-western region of Nepal.

Corporation's turnover was Rs. 6.17 lakh crore. It has achieved this position in terms of 3
parameters. They are revenue, profit, and market capitalization.

New vine snake species discovered in Odisha after a gap of 113 years
A new vine snake species has discovered from the eastern state of Odisha after a gap of 113
years. It has been found in the regions of Similipal, Balasore, and Boudh. Zoologists from different
institutes have participated in the discovery and the research was published in the Journal of
Natural History. Zoologists have named snake species as Ahaetulla Laudankia of Laudankia.
Scientists of Germany found a new bird like Dinosaur "Alcmonavis Poeschli"
Researchers in Germany have unearthed a new bird-like Dinosaur in Bavaria, Germany and
named it as "Alcmonavis Poeschli". The lead author of the study is Oliver Rauhut from Ludwig-
Maximilians University's (LMU) Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. This new study
is published in the journal called eLife Sciences.
Union Ministry of Environment to undertake a project to create DNA Database for Indian Rhinos
Union Ministry of Environment has announced a project to create DNA Database for Indian
Rhinos. This is done in order to curb poaching and collect evidence for wildlife crimes including
Rhinos. The deadline to meet this project is 2021. There are three species of rhinos, of which only
one, the Indian rhino or One-horned Rhinos is found in the country mainly in Kaziranga National
Park, Assam.

Vice President of India, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu called to protect and promote Ongole cattle breed

For the first time in history, Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced its first-ever female
referee team to officiate Men’s Continental Club Cup match. The team consists of 3 Japanese
referees namely, Yoshimi Yamashita and assistants Makoto Bozono and Naomi Teshirogi. They
will officiate the match between Myanmar’s Yangon United and Cambodia’s Naga World at the
Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.

The UN General Assembly, by its resolution 54/115 of 1999 has internationally recognized the

commemorates the birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha (or Lord Buddha). This year it day
coincides with May 18, which witnessed the 2,563rd birth anniversary of the Lord Buddha.
Buddha Purnima also acknowledges the contribution made by Buddhism for humanity.
World Hypertension Day observed on May 17
Since 2006, World Hypertension Day (WHD) 2019 is observed annually on May 17 to raise
awareness about the high blood pressure (HBP). It is a situation where blood pressure in the
arteries is persistently raised. The day also works towards the prevention and control of this
silent killer. The theme for WHD 2019 was "Know Your Numbers".
National Dengue Day observed on May 16
Initiated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National Dengue Day is observed annually
on May 16 to raise awareness about the viral disease dengue and its preventive measures. In
India, Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programe (NVBDCP) is the nodal
centre for the surveillance and prevention of dengue. Dengue is caused due to the dengue virus -
DENV, 1-4 serotype, which is transmitted by the bite of female Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus).
World Bee Day celebrated on May 20
World Bee Day is celebrated on May 20 annually. It is celebrated to raise the awareness of the
importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable
development. The theme of this year is “Save the Bees”. This day marks the birthday of Anton
Janša (1734) who pioneered the modern beekeeping techniques in his native Slovenia in the 18th
century.

World Metrology Day was observed on May 20, 2019 with a theme “The International System of
Units – Fundamentally better”. This theme was chosen because last year on 16th November 2018,
the General Conference on Weights and Measures agreed to revise the International System of

United Nations celebrated May 23 as International Day to End Obstetric Fistula. In 2003, the
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), formerly known as United Nations Fund for Population
Activities and its partners had launched a global campaign to End Obstetric Fistula. An obstetric
fistula is a hole between the vagina and rectum or bladder that is caused by prolonged obstructed
labor, leaving a woman incontinent of urine or feces or both. Obstructed labor means, labor that
goes unattended, the labor can last up to six or seven days.

Kerala Assembly to digitize all its records under the project E-Vidhan
Kerala Assembly will go paperless by undertaking an initiative to digitize all its records under the
project E-Vidhan. The project is assigned to the Cyber Park of Uralungal Labour Contract
Cooperative Society. e-Vidhan, a Mission Mode Project (MMP) has been initiated as a part of
Digital India program for State Legislatures and e-Sansad for Parliament. Himachal Pradesh is the
first Digital Legislature of the country.

India's Organic State, Sikkim celebrated its 44th Statehood Day on May 16. On May 16, 1975,
Sikkim was officially merged into the union of India. It was the 22nd state of India. The first Chief

Chamling set the new record of being the longest-serving chief minister.

votes
In Harda district of Madhya Pradesh, women will handle the entire work of counting votes. This
first of its kind initiative was taken for the empowerment of women. Harda district is a part of
Betul parliamentary seat and the counting of votes of Timarni and Harda assembly segments will
take place at Harda district headquarter. Besides counting of votes, only the women will be
deployed for the security of the counting centre.

with other medical and health schemes. It is health program launched by the Ministry of Health
and Family Welfare for adolescents between the age group 10 and 19 years.
Maharashtra proposed single-window registration of land titles
Maharashtra government has proposed to introduce the Maharashtra Land Titling Act which will
be used for a single-window mechanism for authenticating land titles. This initiative will be first
implemented in Mumbai as linking of various departments and digitising records.
MMOPL tied-up with Instamojo for card payments
The Reliance Infrastructure promoted Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) has
announced a tie-up with Instamojo, a payment gateway. The purpose of this tie-up is to enable
card payments aimed at boosting cashless travel. The total 4.50 lakh commuters can now pay for
all kinds of ticketing products by using debit or credit cards.
Maharashtra government introduced ordinance to bring medical admissions under SEBC quota
Maharashtra government has introduced an ordinance to provide quota to candidates seeking
admissions to medical courses under Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC)
Reservation Act, 2018. Other than this ordinance, the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes
(Amendment and Validation) Ordinance, 2019 will introduce reservation in appointments in
public services and other posts in the state.

Kadavoor Sivadasan, senior Congress leader passed away at the age of 87 in
Thiruvananthapuram. He hailed from Kollam, Kerala. He served four-time as a legislator, under
the Cabinets of K.Karunakaran and A.K.Antony.
United Nation, not State under Article 12 as per the judgment of Delhi High Court
Delhi High court passed a judgment in Sanjaya Bahel v. Union of India & Others that United
Nations Organization (UNO) is not a State under Article 12 of the Indian Constitution. So it is not
amenable to its jurisdiction under Article 226 of the Indian Constitution. The decision was given
by Justice Suresh Kumar Kait against a petition filed by a Sanjay Bahel, former UNO employee who
was found guilty of misconduct. He was then convicted by a US Federal Court and sentenced to 97
months of imprisonment and 2 years of mandatory probation. He was released and deported to
India in May 2014. He claimed that due process was not followed in his case.
Telangana records 15% GSDP growth in FY19 with Rs. 8,66,875 crore
Telangana recorded 15% Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth for the Financial year
ended March 31, 2019 with Rs.8,66,875 crore. For the year 2018, it stood at Rs. 7,53,804 crore.
After the formation of Telangana state, this was the first ever highest growth registered.
