Sa Babaeng Nangarap Maging Teacher

Joselito Delos Reyes, in commemoration of the teacher’s month, uploaded “Sa Babeng

Nangarap Maging Teacher” to Facebook as an essay status. After so, this literature was published

in the year 2014 as a book containing his other witty and quirky statuses that are collated into a

collection. The book was entitled Istatus Nation: Mga Istatus kong Hindi Pang Istatus quo, wherein

the collection of different personal, idiosyncratic pieces, stories and observations are so

unequivocally Pinoy that would be hard pressed not to relate with. During that time, inequality,

injustice, the prevalence of crime, the absurdity of Philippine system, politics and much more are

prevalent throughout the country. Despite this, parents support the needs of their children and

children remained respectful and loving to their parents. People kept their positive outlook in life,

that no matter what their status in life is as long as they strive for their goal—they will achieve it.

Children gives value to their parents so much that they obey their desires and aspirations

for them. In the story, teacher as a profession has been an in demand work ever since. And due to

the fact there is an insufficient money for most people to fund their schooling, they strive to earn

it first. Here a mother aspired for her children to be a teacher, she strived for them and worked

hard because her dream to be one was deprived from her. Starting from the profession she wanted,

to her school of choice ---her children fulfilled this for her. This is a story of gratitude for a mother

who dreamed for them a life that she wanted to have for her own.

For the most part, despite being in demand, teachers are undervalued and underappreciated

in this country wherein inequality is rampant. This profession is most of the time misunderstood.

Despite the hard work of teachers, they only receive a low salary and due to budget restrictions of

schools, many teachers spend their own money for school supplies. The workload for them is

actually bottomless and schooldays are beyond hectic. Teachers are some of the most influential

people in the world, yet the profession is continuously mocked and put down instead of being

revered and respected. A large majority of people have misconceptions about teachers and do not

truly understand what it takes to be an effective educator.
