RATIONALE:

The Municipality of Calatrava primarily is an agricultural community. Agriculture is the main


source of livelihood of the constituents. The office of the Municipal Agriculture supports its Agricultural
development through provision of extension services and technical assistance to our farmers, fisherfolks
and commercial and backyard livestock raisers. The national government support the agricultural sector
by providing facilities, equipment’s and other related services in the Municipality.
Livestock and poultry sector development is one of the concerns of the Local Government to
sustain market demand and in the neighboring island municipalities of Corcuera, Banton and Concepcion
which depends their meat and egg consumption in Batangas and Lucena City.
This concern was discussed and decided by the Civil Society Group Organization (CSO) to seek
Livelihood Fund Assistance that could be utilized to establish Poultry Egg Production Project to reduce
cost of expenses in protein meat and egg market requirements. This Poultry Egg Farm Project will be
constructed in Barangay Balogo and Barangay Pangulo. This two Barangays were identified through the
strategic location as the nearest barangay to the adjacent Municipalities of San Andres and San Agustin
respectively. It will be constructed in both areas with lease agreement contract with the land owner
specifying the term and condition which both parties be beneficial and the viability of importance in
putting up such project in the locality. The Project Beneficiaries will be required to undergo training on
poultry management to improve their skills for the success and sustainability of the Poultry Egg Farm
Project.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Duration: 8-12 months


Project Implementation: 10 Years

COMPONENTS:

The Proposed Project is basically Chicken (Egg Layer) Production to support and sustain egg
supply in the market and to be handled and managed by the CSO registered members with dynamics
attitude relative in poultry production.

The LGU- Calatrava through the office of the Municipal Agriculture is the responsible office to
supervise and monitor this particular project. While the beneficiaries shall maintain the sanitation and
all necessary documents of the facility including records, and proper handling and storage of their
products.
Monthly Reports will be required to submit to this office for information and evaluation of the
success of the project.

PROJECT ANALYSIS:

The Livestock Organization is responsible to manage the project for the production of available
egg supply to the target consumers at very affordable cost.
The direct market is the egg product retailer in the community and egg market expansion will be
the neighboring and Island Municipalities.

SUSTAINABLE PLAN OF THE PROJECT

The expected income will be used to purchased additional layer chicks for the expansion
program of the project in other barangay who are interested to duplicate the project for income
generation.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT/EXPECTED BENEFITS:

The beneficiaries are expected to generate income and possible employment for the cropping
season and provide technical knowledge in the actual management and financial operation in chicken
(egg laying) business.
