Problems:
Farmer

 Direct Variation
A farmer named Juan has an average income of 22,250 Php per month in his 8.9 hectares farm.
His income varies jointly to the size of his farm. He plans to expands his own farm up to 14.8
hectares. He wants to know how much money will he gain at the end of the month after he
expands his farm. If he plant the same kind of rice and has the same price, how much will his
income increase?
Y=kx
22,250 = k (8.9)
K = 2,500
Y = 2,500(14.8)
Y = 37,000Php

 Indirect Variation
A farmer named Juan has a farm. The price of his sweet corn varies inversely as the total kg of
sweet corn he harvested. He usually harvest 500kg of sweet corn in a month and gains 75,000Php
after selling it. One day, a parasite entered his property damaging some part of his farm. 50℅ of
his farm has been damaged. He plans to increase the price of his sweet corn to get his usual
income. If he only have 250kg of sweet corn, how much will he need to increase in order for him
to get his usual income.
Y = k/x Y = 75,000/250
Y = 75,000/500 Y = 300Php
Y = 150Php
DREAM JOB: Engineer

 Direct Variation
An engineer named mark is working. His income is directly proportional to the total number of
floorplans he completed in a month. He has an income of 75,000 in a month after he complies to
all his 25 floorplans taken from his clients. Another company ask him to create a floor plan for
their new building. He has to complete a total of 50 floorplans this month. How much will his
income increase if receives the same amount of money per floorplans and finished all the 50
floorplans at the end of the month?
Y = kx
75,000 = k(25)
K = 3,000
Y = 3,000(50)
Y = 150,000Php

 Indirect Variation
Engr. Mark works hard and many clients notice his accuracy in making floor plans. The number
of his floorplans in inversely proportional to the amount his clients pay him. His clients pay him
5,000Php per floorplans he make and have a total income of 60,000 a month. If the clients now
pays him 7,500Php per floorplans, how many floorplans does he needs to complete in order for
him to gain 60,000Php in a month.
Y = k/x Y = 60,000/7,500
Y = 60,000/5,000 Y = 8 floorplans
Y = 12
Canteen

 Direct Variation
Tita Claire’s sells her signature dish, Afritada, to the students of LCSINHS. Her income is directly
proportional to the price of her dish. Her usual income is 25,000 per month. She sells her dish
50 pesos per serving. Many students like it, she then plans to increase the price of her Afritada
in 60Php per serving. How much will her income increase?
Y = kx
25,000 = k(50). Y = 500(60)
K = 500. Y = 30,000Php
 Indirect Variation
The time it take to sell all food in the canteen is inversely proportional to the number of students
in the whole campus. Tita Claire’s food usually took 2hours to completely be sold if there are 800
students. How much time it needs to completely sell her food if there are 1,500 students.
Y = k/x
180 = k/800
K = 144,000
Y = 144,000/1,500
Y = 96 or 1 hour and 36 minutes

Reflection:
Guianne Rodge L. Igama
After we conducted our interview and solved all the problems we formulated, I find out that
there are so many factors to be considered when it comes to our incomes. We need to think
thoroughly to find the best way to increase our income. The are also things to be considered in
order to prevent the loss of income. We need to be serious in doing our job so that we can be
successful in everything that we do.

After conducting the interview with the farmer, engr. and tita Claire and solved all the problems
I found that even you have a nice job with big salaries, there are still some factors that can affect
this so we have to think smart in managing our salaries and incomes especially in having a
business because even small things can cause problems like bankruptcy.
