    Rizal's second sojourn in Europe

    HONG KONG

     In the middle of March 1889, Rizal left the Beckett family in London

     He also visited Trinidad Pardo de Tavera and Juan Luna

     The Kidlat Club aimed to revivenationalism among Filipinos

     Indios Bravos - the group advocated Filipino pride of their race instead of being ashamed of it.

    JAPAN

     Rizal arrived in San Francisco on April 28,1888

     the passengers of the vessel Belgic were not allowed to disembark and had to be quarantined

     Rizal disembark on May 4,1888. He registered at the Palace Hotel

    Sad news from the Philippines

     on the 19th of February 1888, Rizal boarded the boat Kui Kiang that took him to Macau.

     Rizal stay in Macau with his friends Jose Sainz de Veranda and Jose Maria Basa

     "The city of Macau is small, low and marshy"

     The ship City of Rome arrived in Liverpool on May 24,1888

     stayed as guest in the house of Antonio Ma. Regidor

     he encountered a copy of Sucesos de las Islas Filipinas (a book on Philippine history that was
    written by Antonio de Morga)

     Gaspar de San Agustin - Conquistas de las Islas Filipinas (conquest of the philippine island)

     Relasyon de las Islas Filipinas (the Philippines in 1600) by Fr. Pedro Chirino

     He wanted to visit Amoy in China

     He met Manuel Iriate and Jose Maria Basa


     He found out that the Dominican Congregation was also engaged in other business as they
    owned 750 or more commercial houses.

    Rizal's second sojourn in Europe

     on September 1888, Rizal received a cable from his compatriots in Hong Kong that Noli was
    banned in the Philippines.

     the family engaged the services of Ambrosio Rianzares to defend them but he backed out for
    fear of the Dominican friars.

     On February 22,1888 he boarded the steamship Oceanic bound for Japan and on the 28th in
    Yokohama.

     Spanish Charge d'Affaires Juan Perez Caballero invited Rizal to stay in the Spanish Embassy.

     "it was a country of great beauty; its people were industrious, clean, honest and polite; its
    women were dressed picturesquely and were charming; there are few thieves and beggar"

     he befriended Tetcho Suehiro

     he developed a close and intimate relationship with O Sei-San

     Rizal left japan in April 13, 1888
